🧳 4 Essential Holiday Travel Tips

  1. Buy Tickets Digitally: Avoid long station lines by downloading the free NJ TRANSIT mobile app. You can buy round-trip tickets securely in advance. Reminder: If you are departing from the Port Authority Bus Terminal, you must buy your ticket before boarding.

  2. Pack Light & Smart: Luggage space will be at a premium. Use overhead racks, or use the mezzanine levels at the ends of the cars if you are riding a multilevel train.

  3. Build in a Time Buffer: Holiday traffic can severely impact bus travel times leading into and out of New York City. Give yourself an extra 30–45 minutes.

  4. Check Timetables Before You Leave: Because select standard trains are cancelled on Friday to accommodate early getaway routes, double-check your line’s specific timetable at njtransit.com.
