This is the second of three railroad crossing repair projects taking place over successive weekends in Lodi. The third project is scheduled for the following weekend and will require
Route 17 southbound to be closed for 24 hours. NJDOT will provide notice prior to any future closures.
Beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, July 15, until 7 p.m., Saturday, July 16, Route 17 northbound is scheduled to be closed and detoured between the driveway to Home Depot and the Route
17 northbound exit ramp to Essex Street/Maywood/Saddle Brook. In addition, the ramp from South Summit Avenue to Route 17 northbound is scheduled to be closed. These
closures will allow NJDOT’s contractor, NYSW Railroad Corp., to remove the existing railroad crossing. The following detours will be in place:
Route 17 northbound detour:
• Motorists on Route 17 northbound will be directed to stay left to take the ramp to I80 westbound
• Take Exit 63 to Route 17 to Route 4/Lodi/Fair Lawn
• Turn right onto Riverview Avenue
• Turn right onto Essex Street
• Turn right to take the ramp to Route 17 northbound
South Summit Avenue northbound detour:
• Motorists on South Summit Avenue northbound wishing to take the ramp to Route
17 northbound will be directed to continue on Summit Avenue
• Turn left onto Essex Street
• Turn left to take the ramp to Route 17 northbound/Paramus
South Summit Avenue southbound detour:
• Motorists on South Summit Avenue southbound wishing to take the ramp to Route
17 northbound will be directed to turn right onto Essex Street, before the ramp from
to Route 17 northbound
• Turn left to take the ramp to Route 17 northbound/Paramus
In order to provide safer and smoother railroad crossing, the existing crossing will be replaced with new concrete crossings and asphalt approaches. This federally-funded project
is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 50 crossings each year, statewide.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for
