Paramus NJ, the Bergen County Board of Elections conducted a special poll working training class to train over 30 Bergen County Academies students on how to be poll workers for the upcoming Presidential Primary and General Elections.
With turnout expected to be an all-time high this November, it is critical to ensure all our polling locations are properly staffed. This unique PILOT program, which was first rolled out last year to Teaneck High School and expanded to eight high schools throughout the county for 2024, helps the Board of Elections meet that goal while also engaging students in the democratic process.
While the PILOT program is only working with a handful of high schools, there is good news. Even if your school is not participating, minors who are at least 16 years old and interested in serving as a poll worker for the upcoming election can apply to be a poll worker by visiting the Bergen County Board of Elections website below to submit an online application!
Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco said, “I commend the Bergen County Board of Elections under the leadership of Commissioner Chairman Richard Miller for expanding this program and thank the board for this unique opportunity which activates our high school students in the democratic process even before they may have the right to vote!”
