Bergen County Historical Society Christmas Holiday Events!

Bergen County Historical Society celebrates Sinterklaas Day on Sunday December 3rd 1 pm-3 pm.
Bergen County Historical Society for our 40th Annual Colonial Christmas Concerts and Tavern Fare on Saturday, December 16th, or Sunday, December 17th at Historic New Bridge Landing 1201 Main Street, River Edge.

Start off the holiday season at Historic New Bridge Landing as the Bergen County Historical Society celebrates Sinterklaas Day on Sunday December 3rd 1 pm-3 pm. 

All three 18th century Jersey-Dutch sandstone houses including the state historic 1752 Steuben House will be open for tours throughout the day.

Be on the lookout for Sinterklaas and stop to take your photo with him.

At 2 pm in the Campbell-Christie House BCHS Trustee Ariel Woll will be giving a Hanukkah presentation. She will demonstrate how the menorah is lit and will explain more about the history, traditions, and customs of the holiday.

Be sure to stop by The Blackhorse Inn to enjoy donuts, hot cider, and other seasonal treats.

Don’t forget to visit the Society’s authentic Jersey Dutch out-kitchen where interpreters will be making soft waffles using a waffle iron, Dutch banket letters using puff pastry that is filled with almond paste, and other Dutch holiday goodies.

Activities for families include pinecone bird feeder and ornament making throughout the afternoon.

Ticket reservations for the 40th Annual Colonial Christmas Concerts featuring Linda Russell and Companie will also be on sale.

Free parking available on site or take the train to the “New Bridge Landing” station on the Pascack Valley Line. HNBL, 1201 Main Street, River Edge NJ.

Dogs are permitted on site on a leash but not in the houses.

If the hustle and bustle, the tinsel and glitter of a 21st century Christmas makes you long for a simpler day, join the Bergen County Historical Society for their 40th Annual Colonial Christmas Concerts and Tavern Fare on Saturday, December 16th, or Sunday, December 17th at Historic New Bridge Landing 1201 Main Street, River Edge.

Performances take place in the historically decorated 270-year-old Steuben House at 6:00 pm and 7:45 pm on Saturday and 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm on Sunday, where Linda Russell and Companie will whisk you back to Yuletides of yesteryear with the carols of your childhood and stories of Christmas past. Don’t delay, tickets sell out quickly!

You can stroll through the candlelit site to the Blackhorse Inn, open 4:45-8:30 pm on Saturday and 3:00 pm- 7:30 pm on Sunday for a light supper or dessert of period favorites such as shepherd’s pie, onion & cheese pie, Ploughman’s plate, English trifle, selection of Dutch sweets, cake donuts, and cider.

Take a moment to visit Sinterklaas in the Demarest House and don’t forget to stop in the gift shop for a unique and perfect present.

Face masks are not required but are optional for those who wish to wear them.

Concert admission: $35 non-members, $28 BCHS members. Seating is limited for each performance, advance purchase through the society’s website is recommended. Tavern fare is at an additional cost.
