UPDATE: Bergen County Assistant Prosecutor and Ridgewood Resident Dies in Fatal Accident in Hackensack

Hackensack NJ, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Hackensack Police Department are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Essex Street in Hackensack, NJ on Friday, July 29, 2022 at approximately 3:52 p.m. Responding officers transported one of the motorists to Hackensack University Medical Center where he died as a result of his injuries.

The Victim is reported to be an assistant Bergen County prosecutor died of injuries he sustained during a collision with another vehicle at a busy intersection in Hackensack on Friday, July 29th.

Responding officers transported 38-year-old Avon Morgan, a resident of Ridgewood, to Hackensack University Medical Center after his motorcycle and an SUV collided with one another in the area of East Railroad Avenue and Essex Street at about 4:00 p.m.

He passed away at the hospital a short while later, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor whose Fatal Accident Unit is investigating the fatal accident.

Fire crews extricated the driver of the SUV, who was also transferred to HUMC with complaints of neck pain. Summonses have yet to be issued.

A native of Teaneck, Morgan had worked for the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office since November 2016. He got his J.D. degree from New York Law School and was previously an administrative specialist with the Superior Court.

An investigation is being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Hackensack Police Department under the direction of Officer in Charge Darren DeWitt. No additional information is available at this time.

  2. I knew Avon since he was 6 years old. Avon was a great person and one of the nicest people I knew. He grew up in Ridgewood and was liked by everyone. A great personality, and he always had a big smile on his face. Such a tragedy. May he Rest In Peace.

  3. I read with great sadness of the death of Avon Morgan. Our family knew him as a little boy, as he was a playmate of our sons’ for whom we had great fondness, and later, a classmate at Ridgewood High School. Our sincerest condolences to his family.
