Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Mourns the Loss of Sergeant Michael Ramos

Hackensack NJ, The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office and its community are mourning the tragic loss of Sergeant Michael Ramos, a dedicated officer remembered as a “true public servant” by Sheriff Anthony Cureton.

Honoring the Life and Service of Sergeant Michael Ramos

Sergeant Ramos, 37, was known for his unwavering commitment to protecting and serving the people of Bergen County. Sheriff Cureton described him as a professional with a compassionate spirit that left a lasting impact on colleagues and the community.

“Sergeant Ramos dedicated his life to serving and protecting the people of Bergen County with unwavering commitment, professionalism, and a spirit that touched everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him. His dedication and compassion left a lasting impact on our office and the community he so faithfully served,” the Sheriff’s Office shared in a statement.

Born and raised in Lodi, Ramos later settled in Rochelle Park. A graduate of Johnson & Wales University, he earned a degree in criminal justice in 2010 and began his law enforcement career in 2013 with the New Jersey Corrections Department.

In 2016, he joined the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, where he worked his way up to the rank of detective before being promoted to sergeant in 2023.

A Community in Mourning

The news of Ramos’ passing was first shared by the Bergen County Crisis Intervention Team, of which Ramos was a valued member. In a Facebook post, the team expressed their deep loss and noted Ramos’ graduation from the program in June 2019.

Throughout his career, Ramos was also an active member of the Policemen’s Benevolent Association Local 134 and a dedicated parishioner at St. Francis de Sales R.C. Church in Lodi.

Described as a “pillar of the community,” his obituary highlighted his bravery, dedication, and the love he poured into his work and relationships.

Condolences from Across the Region

Following his passing, police departments and community organizations across the region have shared heartfelt condolences on social media, including the Lodi Police Department, the Lyndhurst Police Department, and other law enforcement groups.

“Sergeant Michael Ramos is deeply honored and remembered for his bravery, dedication, and the love he poured into everything he did for the community and his family,” the obituary stated.

A Legacy That Will Inspire

Sergeant Ramos’ cause of death has not been disclosed, but his memory will continue to inspire the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office and the larger community he served so faithfully. His commitment to public service, his compassion, and his professionalism leave behind a legacy that will not be forgotten.
