Booker ducks Waywire question, attacks Holt over financial disclosure

Newark Mayor Cory Booker fired back at one of his Democratic U.S. Senate opponents today, saying that Rep. Rush Holt should make sure he has complied with disclosure rules before he questions Booker’s financial ties to a tech company.

In a televised debate last night, Holt – along with Rep. Frank Pallone – suggested Booker needs to be more transparent about his relationship with Waywire, the social media company he founded last year with two Internet entrepreneurs.

Booker was asked to clarify his financial connection to Waywire during a campaign event in Elizabeth today. But he went after Holt instead.

“Rush Holt has not filed his disclosure forms. We’ve disclosed everything,” Booker said. “He’s in the middle of an election, disclosure forms were due in May, and he hasn’t filed them.”

Although Booker’s involvement with Waywire has been public since last year, the original financial disclosure form he filed in May did not mention that the mayor sits on Waywire’s board or that he owns more than a million dollars worth of Waywire stock. He filed an amendment form last month making those disclosures.
