North Arlington NJ, Dylan Sullivan, the Senior Patrol Leader of BSA Troop 86 in Lyndhurst, spearheaded an Eagle Scout project at Holy Cross Cemetery and Mausoleum in North Arlington. The project aimed to restore and honor the graves of fallen soldiers dating back to the Civil War, Spanish-American War, and World War I.

Approximately 50 volunteers, including school-aged scouts, parents, local veterans, community members, and friends, used a solution and process similar to Arlington National Cemetery’s to clean and scrub tombstones.

The effort concluded with a rededication ceremony attended by distinguished guests, including Bergen County Commissioner Steve Tanelli and North Arlington Mayor Daniel Pronti. Tanelli presented Sullivan with a Certificate of Commendation on behalf of the Bergen County Board of Commissioners for his impactful service project.

Marine Corps League West Hudson Detachment 209, VFW Post 1302, and American Legion Post 99 from Kearny also participated in the event, which featured a blessing of the graves, memorial wreath laying, a three-volley salute, and a poignant speech by Marine Corps League Captain Adam Tegge emphasizing the significance of remembering those who sacrificed for their country and communities.
