Ridgewood NJ, representatives of the environmental testing company hired by the Village of Ridgewood informed Village Council members during Wednesday night’s Work Session where the contaminated soil dumped at Schedler came from.

It was reported that there were 3 contaminated loads.  One load came from Bergen Community College in Paramus. The two remaining loads came from separate work sites under the supervision of Ridgewood Water.

Soil samples taken from all 3 contaminated loads were tested prior to the loads being dumped at Schedler. Testing performed prior to the loads being dumped revealed the presence of contamination, yet they were dumped at Schedler regardless.

Mayor Paul Vagianos stated publicly that the loads were dumped erroneously because the person responsible for overseeing the dumping process was not familiar with NJDEP testing standards in effect at the time.

  1. Who was that person?

    1. Mayor Vagianos publicly identified the individual as Christopher Rutishauser, Village Engineer.

      1. Can he solely be held accountable? He definitely should have known better, no?

    2. Why was he responsible for something he was clueless about? Mismanagement?

      1. Maybe he claimed to know everything about everything, but it was proven otherwise.

  2. Yeah, OK, someone’s pointing fingers now . what are you trying to say there’s only three loads of contamination through that whole pile, yeah OK . The bottom line is There’s contamination. And people are exposed. And the village is libel for their health and safety. I think most people think they should have another outside lab that the village doesn’t know to do an inspection. Let’s see what they come up with.

  3. Well, well, well … and for the two or three people out there who still trust Ridgewood Water to remove the poison from your taps, there ya go.

On an unrelated matter, remember when they used to take the morally deranged people from the village out on hunting trips and vision quests and came back without them and nobody said nothing? That was crazy.

  4. Same days dump trucks were removing dirt from the old Ken Smith dealership in town where The Benjamin apartments now stand there were dump trucks delivering dirt to Schindler field. Must be a coincidence though…🤪🤪🤪

  5. The same day dump trucks were removing dirt from the Ken Smith dealership where The Benjamin apartments now stand there were dump trucks delivering dirt to the Schendler property to build that berm along the highway. Must be a coincidence though…🤪🤪🤪

  6. This guy should be immediately fired. This is ridiculous enough enough. Remember, this is not over. He put Village employees at risk the mayor the council the help department, the manager and the DEP better have a list of employees that worked on that site. We are conducting our own investigation and so far we heard, there was about three employees from the street department throughout the years working at that site running equipment. We are taking deeper to get more information.

  7. The engineer should be sent out of the village. Time for him to go.

    1. Other engineering guy was involved in this too.. Jovan M.

  8. The state d e p needs to inspect the whole site. The contamination is throughout the whole site, it’s not just that dirt berm. That dirt filled in so many locations throughout That piece of land. So many residents have witnessed equipment operators filling in low line areas throughout that site. It needs to be inspected from West side of River Road right to Route 17 to the exit to the neighboring residence and the story.

  9. Keith Kazmark doesn’t have the balls to fire Chris Rutishauser. Keith’s excuse was, Chris called the police on one occasion when an unauthorized person dumped one load on his territory. Sounds like a real turf war to me.

  10. So let Ridgewood Water and Bergen Community College pay for the cleanup. Hi, Matt Rogers-Village Attorney, do your job!

  11. What a mess. Aren’t there privately owned wells around there? This is turning into a legal nightmare for the village.

  12. The old Turkish proverb, “When a clown moves into a palace, he doesn’t become a king. The palace becomes a circus.” Paul Vagianos has turned Ridgewood into a three ring circus.

  13. And NOW soil was found to be dumped at Habernickel by the playground???

How toxic is that park? Will it be closed u til tested?
