Ridgewood NJ, on-line NJ Courts documents posted for public viewing on August 16, 2024, reveal that the Village of Ridgewood has been ordered to pay an additional $341,700 to the former owners of The Town Garage property, located at 120 Franklin Avenue, in connection with condemnation actions undertaken by the Village. Total purchase price for the condemned property now stands at $1,447,700. Court documents stipulate that the property was condemned to facilitate construction of a public park.
In addition to the $341,700 earmarked for the former property owner, the Village will also be required to fork over a total of $13,125 to the three (3) “Condemnation Commissioners” who were involved in the appeal process.

Great leaders we have. Said no one. Ever.
Ka-Ching!
Without getting into mud-flinging, can someone with real knowledge explain why thus is / what was going on here?
Village’s assessors undervalued the property and the Condemnation Commissioners agreed.
Who did the original evaluation? The head of the engineering dept., by any chance?
And we didn’t even remediate the property yet so this will cost thousands more. Unlike what council Pam Indicated, why can’t we just pave over it. I swear this VC had lost they mind.
Evan said no problem, we will just bond it.
Does Evan even know how bonding works? It’s not free money dude, tax payers are on the hook for it
The estimated clean up cost in 2007 was $800,000 for that property. So today I’m sure it’s well north of 1 million, plus the million or so for the Schedler berm equals a lot of money to gain nothing. The engineer assured everyone that berm soil was clean. At the very least he should lose his license either for lying or gross negligence.
And toxic soil at Habernickel and a new playground and a 370,000 dollar pavilion at Habernickel. Who has all this money?
We are going to borrow it from Fairlawn.
“Who has all this money?”
The taxpayers are going to be paying for all of this for a long time via Increased taxes. All because of “special interests”.
Let’s see. The Village of Ridgewood bought the property taking it off the tax rolls . Now we have to clear the land and remediate. We then have to construct a park all so the Mayor can get his name on a brass plaque. I guess he is pissed his name is not on the plaque at the parking garage
How about a big new sign that says THIS WHITE ELEPHANT BROUGHT TO YOU THANKS TO THE SELF-INTEREST OF . . . ?
Decades and decades of debacle with this property.
$$$$$ wasted
I guess the 350,000 pavilion at Habernickle should be put on hold to pay for this. What’s more important?
“What’s more important?” More requests for Habernickle Gatehouse Property/Native Pollinator Garden: $5,400.00
A past PRC Board meeting:
The back of the Gatehouse needs a major clean up, would like to
hire Garden Angels from Glen Rock,, and install a native pollinator garden and will be gifting this to the Village of Ridgewood, the amount is $5,400.00. F. Mortimer made a motion. J. Morgan made a second motion. All in favor.
Too much money is being spent over there for a business that generates nothing for the town. Peanuts!
The money is needed elsewhere to clean up the mess we are in
Stop spending tax payers money on a business
And 350,000 dollar building for lighting shelter for who? The huge camp that goes on there all summer for a private business?
Can we build a noise pollution shelter instead. It’s loud in that park
The town needs that money now for clean up
Bees. Seriously where there are tons of kids
We blame the old manager and engineer. They were in charge. They new . If not then they are really stupid. They were just not performing.
Definitely the engineer
Yes, they are responsible but so is Kaz-shark. He is right in there with the toxic trio Vagianos, Weitz and Whinograd. They do not listen to the people. They do exactly what they want. They are making some very bad decisions for this village and will continue to do so.
Say No to Vagianos
Sa No Paulie’s puppets-Bee Man Mortimer
Don’t let them stack the deck with people who will only vote for the pet projects from Vagianos agenda.
The new manager needs to get a new big broom to sweep out all the bull shit that has been going on for a long time.
Idiot Festival
We are still wondering has the village manager reached out to all the village employees, past and present , that worked at The site on W. Saddle River Rd.. just curious
We need to make sure that all the employees are aware of the situation that they may have been put in harm’s way working at the site. This is very serious.from what we have heard that one employee that worked there has retired about a year and half ago. Not sure if anyone has reached out to him. The village needs to do the right thing on this. The village knows who was working there. They are planning stupid.
The mayor, the council, the village manager, the health department. The DEP , the Union ,need to get on the same page, this is a major health issue. We didn’t exactly don’t know the amount of people that have been affected. And they’re not doing their part. They should show the public, the real truth about the village. Is this who we are. Cold backstabbing, no spine ice in our veins. Because this is what they’re showing to the public.
Don’t forget the neighbors in the Schedler community. Lots of them to consider with the toxic soil and waste dumping that went on and on.
Why would somebody put thumbs down on employees well-being, are you that sick? They are responsible. I would love to meet you any place anytime and slapped the shit out of you. You jerk off you must be the biggest a hole walking around with no brains. We have employees that were put in the Health toxic position, Do you think they would’ve continue their work if they knew so I’m sure not. The people in charge should’ve known better so they’re liable, end of the story.
this is not good, but neither is the property sitting as it has for years.
well if the council had put in place the agreed upon plan it might have been finalized. But no, they had to go bigger and bigger and bigger and also they didn’t honor the environmental testing that was required. They bulldozed their way through meetings to flex their big municipal muscles until someone slowed them down. Hopefully for a very, very very, very, very, very, very very, very, very, very, very very, very, very, very, very very, very, very, very, very very, very, very, very, very very, very, very, very, very very, very, very, very, very very, very, veryery, very very, very, very very, very, very, very, very very, very, very, very, very very, very, very, very, very very, very, very, very, very very, very, very, very, very very, very, very, very, very very, very, very, very, very very, very, veryery, very very, very, very long time.
No one prior to this council has done anything about the garage. Can’t blame it on current council
