Ridgewood NJ, several Ridgewood bus commuters have advised members of our staff that the terminal building area at Van Neste Square is basically unlit during the early morning commuting hours. The only lighting in the area reportedly comes from a parking lot behind the building.

We suppose Councilperson Siobhan Winograd does not walk her dog early enough in the morning to have noticed this, and that is why the problem has not been addressed?

  1. The bus building has been disgrace for many years now. There’s no lighting inside at all at night. It’s pretty much always filthy. Smelly reminds me of poor authority in New York in the 80s. and some of the ceiling is all rotten out.

    1. So true, and to think we turned down the NJ Transit offer to build a new terminal and parking garage at the train station and old Ford dealership. It would have cost Ridgewood $0 and we would have a parking garage at Frankin and Broad and a new bus terminal.

      1. Why???? Why did we turn it down?

  2. Poorly lit?
You don’t need lighting to know it’s a shite hole.

  3. Winograd’s dog is better suited for spotting opportunities for improvement than Winograd herself is.

    1. Pffffffft !

  4. I gotta tell you, the village makes some real stupid decisions, that bus lot has been a shit hole for a long time, they experience numerous problems at that location. Don’t let anybody bullshit you. Everything from filth, people sleeping inside, doing drugs, drinking, many other things. Which the village would love to keep real quiet.

  5. Just remember people, New Jersey transit wasn’t the only individuals interested in building a parking garage for free. They had an investment company from Hoboken that was going to build a parking garage with some kind of catering entertainment at the first floor so they can utilize the parking garage for parking, and after 15 years in the deal, they were going to the parking garage access and revenue to the village. It was a win-win situation for everyone now they screwed that one up to you notice in the past 15 years with managers, mayors, political group the village went down. All of a sudden, now they’re spending a lot of your taxpayers money is that because it’s election year, so you don’t have a big line for people running for council do you? So in the end, it doesn’t matter who the mayor council or manager are it’s the people behind the curtain pulling the strings remember in life is always someone you have to answer to the village manager supposed to be the boss while he answers to the mayor and council the council answers to the mayor, and the mayor answers to the political groups with the big money, sometimes some things don’t change. And if anyone would like to turn their thumb and point it down well you know what let’s meet anytime and I’ll show you how it’s done. Enjoy the night.

  6. New lights at Vets Field is a higher priority.

  7. As 47 year residents of Ridgewood we have sadly witnessed the deterioration of the Van Neste bus terminal. It is a disgrace and an embarrassment to us whenever we greet visitors from NYC.
How could this eyesore have remained in this state for so long?

  8. I think the dog walks her, not the other way around.

  9. Take down the walls, put in lighting, call it a day.
Power wash it once a week.

  10. At times, you gotta see some of the characters to hang out inside and around that bus station, we wonder where they’re from. And something else for a note how come we don’t see police walking the beat throughout the CBD in the summertime like years ago, why is that, or on scooter They should hire a traffic control officer, instead of all these people writing tickets that no one’s using the parking garage waste of money

  11. We heard the place got lights shortly after this story was posted. Thanks James.
