Fair Lawn NJ, a 4-door Toyota Camry driving southbound on Route 208 near Virginia Drive in Fair Lawn, careened off of the highway late Saturday night, 08/26, and crashed into the basement of a nearby garden apartment complex. The vehicle’s driver could not be located following the crash. Occupants of the struck building were asked to evacuate until the vehicle could be safely removed from the structure; structural damage was reported to have been significant. Evacuated residents standing outside reported observing water leaking in the basement. A technician from PSE&G’s Gas Division was on scene inspecting natural gas lines in the basement. No injuries to residents were reported. Paramus Police assisted Fair Lawn Police with traffic and crowd control. Fair Lawn FD Company #3 and Fair Lawn Heavy Rescue also responded, along with an ambulance (for standby) from The Valley Hospital. K-9 units from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office were also dispatched to assist.
UPDATE: The vehicle’s driver was taken into custody by Fair Lawn Police at a residence in Waldwick approximately two (2) hours after the crash occurred.

Yet another crash in Fairlawn
Yes, yet another crazy accident off the virgins drive exit off route 208. The town must do something to help prevent these accidents. Since living here there’s been a dozen accidents hitting the same building and tree, taking down signs. Please help these residents stay and be safe. Signs are NOT ENOUGH.
I think they need to make Fairlawn fire department full time.
