Rutherford NJ, a car fire broke out on Route 17 southbound in Rutherford, on Thursday, February 13, at approximately 2:30 PM, engulfing the engine compartment of a four-door sedan.

Emergency Response & Traffic Impact

The Rutherford Police Department (RPD), with assistance from a Bergen County Sheriff’s Office unit, quickly responded to the scene, shutting down multiple lanes to manage traffic and ensure public safety.

Driver Unharmed & Caught on Camera

Fortunately, the driver safely exited the vehicle before flames spread and was seen recording the fire from the highway’s shoulder.

Ongoing Investigation

The Rutherford Fire Department swiftly contained the fire, preventing further escalation. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, though mechanical failure remains a likely factor.
