Carlstadt NJ, a 32-year-old Carlstadt man has been charged with death by auto after a tragic accident involving a motorcyclist on Friday night. The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the suspect, Johnny Aguilar, was allegedly driving under the influence when the fatal crash occurred.
The incident took place at approximately 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of Paulison and Pennington Avenues. The motorcyclist, identified as 59-year-old Carlos Oscario-Rodriguez of Allentown, Pennsylvania, was hit by a Ford Excursion while riding through the intersection. Emergency responders transported Oscario-Rodriguez to St. Mary’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:12 p.m.
Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes stated in a news release that Aguilar’s blood alcohol content was above the legal limit at the time of the crash. Aguilar has since been charged with second-degree death by auto and remains in custody, awaiting his first court appearance. If convicted, Aguilar faces a prison sentence of five to ten years.
Passaic Mayor Hector Lora urged the public to avoid driving under the influence, highlighting the preventable nature of such tragedies. “We implore people not to drive under the influence,” Lora said.
This incident underscores the dangers of impaired driving and its devastating consequences for families and communities. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash as Aguilar awaits legal proceedings.
