NJ Department of Health Announces First Death Associated With National Vaping Outbreak

Ridgewood NJ, The Department of Health today is announcing the first New Jersey death associated with the national vaping outbreak. The death, involving an adult female from northern New Jersey, was reported to the Department in August and mentioned as a report under investigation by Department of Health Acting Commissioner Judith Persichilli at the time Governor Phil Murphy announced the creation of the Electronic Smoking Device Task Force on September 12, 2019.

Fed’s Charge Bergen County woman with conspiracy involving false documentation to secure over $4 million dollars in bank loans

Englewood NJ, A Bergen County, New Jersey, woman has been charged for her role in a conspiracy that involved the creation of false documentation to secure over $4 million dollars in bank loans, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

Jennie Frias, a/k/a “Jennie Castillo,” 36, of Englewood, New Jersey, was charged by complaint with one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud. Frias had her initial appearance Sept. 25, 2019, before U.S. Magistrate Judge James B. Clark III in Newark federal court and was released on a $100,000 unsecured bond.

Hackensack NJ, The Bergen County Republican candidates are applauding the Ocean County Freeholders for filing a federal lawsuit against the state Attorney General’s office. The lawsuit was filed in response to a statewide edict that severely limits cooperation between state law enforcement agencies and federal immigration authorities (ICE).

“Ocean County Freeholders are standing up to Gov. Murphy and the Attorney General to support law enforcement and protect the public. Sadly, we can only wish the Democrat Bergen County freeholders had such courage,” said BCRO Chairman Jack Zisa.

Trenton NJ, Governor Phil Murphy signed the following bill into law that permits owner of 10 percent or more of member team of sports governing body to place or accept wagers on certain sports events in which other member teams participate.

This bill permits a direct or indirect legal or beneficial owner of 10 percent or more of a member team of a sports governing body to place or accept wagers on a sports event in which other member teams participate when the owner’s team is not participating. Currently, a legal or beneficial owner of 10 percent or more of a team may not place or accept wagers on any sports event in which any of the other member teams of the team’s sports governing body participate. This bill would permit placing and accepting wagers on those events when the owner’s team is not a participant in the event.

Ridgewood NJ, Five Paterson, New Jersey, men have admitted their roles in a scheme to steal checks worth more than $300,000 from U.S. Postal Service (USPS) mail collection boxes throughout New Jersey, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

Jerry Lake-Rodriguez, 26, pleaded guilty today before U.S. District Judge Claire C. Cecchi in Newark federal court to an indictment charging him with conspiracy to commit bank fraud and aggravated identity theft. Co-defendants Ismael Alicea Jr., 26, Yerrisson Garcia-Rodriguez, 24, Brayan Ulloa-Ulloa, 24, and Johan Lake-Rodriguez, 27, previously pleaded guilty to separate informations charging each with conspiracy to commit bank fraud.

Shooting Investigation in Lodi

Lodi NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announces the following information:

At approximately 12:04 a.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2019, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office received information that a male individual was shot in the back in front of 201 Burns Avenue in the Borough of Lodi.  The victim, later identified as a 19-year-old Lodi resident, was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center where he remains in critical but stable condition.  

The shooting is under investigation, which is being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti and the Lodi Police Department under the direction of Chief Donald Scorzetti.  Prosecutor Musella would like to thank the Lodi Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.

Six-Figure Sick Time Parachute for Police Chief in Palisades Park

Palisades Park NJ, The police chief in Palisades Park is retiring after a scathing review of the operation of his department, but only after he cashes more than $115,000 in checks for unused sick time. It’s just the latest example of a long string of abuses suffered by property taxpayers in the state, Senator Kip Bateman bristled.

“Sick time was never intended to be a personal retirement account for a select group of public employees, but here we go again,” said Bateman (R-16). “Another police chief retiring, and another six-figure invoice for the property taxpayers to deal with.”
