Records Sought by Judicial Watch May Remain Closed to the Public for Five Years

June 22,2017
the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Washington DC, Judicial Watch today announced that the National Security Council (NSC) on May 23, 2017, informed it by letter that the materials regarding the unmasking by Obama National Security Advisor Susan Rice of “the identities of any U.S. citizens associated with the Trump presidential campaign or transition team” have been removed to the Obama Library.

The NSC will not fulfill an April 4 Judicial Watch request for records regarding information relating to people “who were identified pursuant to intelligence collection activities.”

The agency also informed Judicial Watch that it would not turn over communications with any Intelligence Community member or agency concerning the alleged Russian involvement in the 2016 presidential election; the hacking of DNC computers; or the suspected communications between Russia and Trump campaign/transition officials. Specifically, the NSC told Judicial Watch:

Documents from the Obama administration have been transferred to the Barack Obama Presidential Library.  You may send your request to the Obama Library.  However, you should be aware that under the Presidential Records Act, Presidential records remain closed to the public for five years after an administration has left office.

Judicial Watch’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) April 4 request sought:

1.) Any and all requests for information, analyses, summaries, assessments, transcripts, or similar records submitted to any Intelligence Community member agency or any official, employee, or representative thereof by former National Security Advisor Susan Rice regarding, concerning, or related to the following:

Any actual or suspected effort by the Russian government or any individual acting on behalf of the Russian government to influence or otherwise interfere with the 2016 presidential election.
The alleged hacking of computer systems utilized by the Democratic National Committee and/or the Clinton presidential campaign.
Any actual or suspected communication between any member of the Trump presidential campaign or transition team and any official or employee of the Russian government or any individual acting on behalf of the Russian government.
The identities of U.S. citizens associated with the Trump presidential campaign or transition team who were identified pursuant to intelligence collection activities.

2.) Any and all records or responses received by former National Security Advisor Susan Rice and/or any member, employee, staff member, or representative of the National Security Council in response to any request described in part 1 of this request.

3.) Any and all records of communication between any official, employee, or representative of the Department of any Intelligence Community member agency and former National Security Advisor Susan Rice and/or any member, employee, staff member, or representative of the National Security Council regarding, concerning, or related to any request described in Part 1 of this request.

The time frame for this request was January 1, 2016, to the April 4, 2017.

While acknowledging  in its FOIA request that “we are cognizant of the finding by the Court of Appeals … that [the NSC] “does not exercise sufficiently independent authority to be an ‘agency’ for purposes of the Freedom of Information Act,” Judicial Watch argued:

The records sought in this request pertain to actions by the former National Security Advisor that demonstrate a much higher degree of independent authority than was contemplated by the court; specifically, the issuance of directives to the Intelligence Community related to the handling of classified national security information…

The recent revelations of the role of Susan Rice in the unmasking the names of U.S. citizens identified in the course of intelligence collection activities and the potential that her actions contributed to the unauthorized disclosure of classified national security information are matters of great public interest.

Judicial Watch has filed six FOIA lawsuits related to the surveillance, unmasking, and illegal leaking targeting President Trump and his associates (see here, here, here, here, here and here).

“Prosecutors, Congress, and the public will want to know when the National Security Council shipped off the records about potential intelligence abuses by the Susan Rice and others in the Obama White House to the memory hole of the Obama Presidential Library,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.  “We are considering our legal options but we hope that the Special Counsel and Congress also consider their options and get these records.”

make america great again

By Dan Alexander June 21, 2017 4:07 PM

WALL — One of the students whose yearbook pictures were censored in order to remove Donald Trump refernces is calling for an independent investigation, saying that the district superintendent cannot be trusted because she once posted an anti-Trump article to the district website.

Superintendent Cheryl Dyer call the accusation an affront to her “personally and professionally.”

Wyatt Dobrovich-Fago told the township Board of Education on Tuesday that he wants an independent investigation into the deletion of the logos from his sweater vest and from the T-shirt worn by junior Grant Berardo, according to a News 12 New Jersey report.  A Trump quotation submitted by Wyatt’s sister, freshman class president Montana, also was omitted.

The yearbook alterations caused a local stir and made national headlines.

NJ sex worker says: Decriminalize prostitution and treat us like humans

sex workers

By Dino Flammia June 18, 2017 9:00 PM

To escape a domestic violence situation more than 20 years ago, Newark resident Janet Duran needed to find work that would pay well enough to support herself and her child, and not interfere with attaining a college degree.

Alexey Klementiev, ThinkStock

“The easiest way out,” she says, was entering the world of sex work. Since then, on and off, she’s “dabbled in a bit of everything” sex trade-related, except webcam services, to make ends meet. And it’s still helping to pay the bills.

“I just go out. If someone’s interested, they’ll come speak to me,” she said. “I just kind of bounce around from city to city.”

NEWARK–What’s the penalty for writing a bad check?

It could run into a lot of money for the federal government, after jurors in New Jersey were apparently stiffed out of their $40-a-day pay.

Hundreds of U.S. Treasury checks sent out by the U.S. District Court in New Jersey to jurors over the past two weeks unexpectedly bounced, saddling many with hefty bank fees after they were cashed and then returned. One juror said he learned there was a problem after his bank deposited the check without question, and then hit him with a charge.

The court promised to make good on any losses.

Ridgewood NJ , It has been long speculated New Jersey would be the first state to go into financial chaos  but the  state of  Illinois looks like its about to beat New Jersey to the punch. A state official responsible for paying the state’s bills is warning that new court orders mean her office must pay out more each month than Illinois receives in revenue.

Comptroller Susana Mendoza must prioritize what gets paid as Illinois nears its third year without a state budget.Like New Jersey a mix of state law, court orders and pressure from credit rating agencies requires some items be paid first. Those include debt and pension payments, state worker paychecks and some school funding.

Mendoza says a recent court order regarding money owed for Medicaid bills means mandated payments will eat up 100 percent of Illinois’ monthly revenue.

Washington Dc , The news that the shooter James Hodgkinson had a list of GOP names suggests the shooting was not a random outburst, but instead appears to be a premeditated political assassination.

The list was written out on notepad paper and found in the shooter’s pocket, according to multiple sources. The list of GOP names included Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks, South Carolina Rep. Jeff Duncan and Arizona Rep. Trent Franks.

It was also reported on Fox News that Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, Tennessee Rep. Scott DesJarlais and Virginia Rep. Morgan Griffith are also on the list. All six congressmen are members of the House Freedom Caucus, which contains the lower chamber’s most conservative members.

“For those still wondering, he didn’t hate baseball or beautiful summer mornings in June,” White House counselor Kellyanne Conway said in reference to this article. “He hated Republicans.”

Judicial Watch Sues for Comey Memo

FBI Director James Comey

June 17,2017

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Washington DC .Judicial Watch today announced it filed a Freedom of Information (FOIA) lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice for information about former FBI Director James Comey’s memorandum written after his meeting with President Trump regarding potential interference by the Russians in the 2016 presidential election (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:17-cv-01189)).

The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia after the Department of Justice failed to respond to a May 16 FOIA request seeking:

The memorandum written by former Director James Comey memorializing his meeting and conversation with President Trump regarding the FBI’s investigation of potential Russian interference in the 2016 United States presidential election. For purposes of clarification, this memorandum was reportedly written on or about February 13, 2017 and is the subject of a New York Times article … dated May 16, 2017.

The memo purportedly recounts a conversation between President Trump and Comey about a pending investigation of Gen. Mike Flynn.

Judicial Watch is pursuing six FOIA lawsuit (see here, here, here, here and here) related to the surveillance, unmasking, and illegal leaking targeting President Trump and his associates during the FBI’s investigation of potential Russian involvement.

“That we have to sue in federal court to get a document that was read to a reporter at The New York Times is a scandal,” stated Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton. “This Comey memo should be released forthwith and, frankly, the president can and should order its immediate release.”

Separately, Judicial Watch yesterday sent Acting FBI Director Andrew G. McCabe a warning letterconcerning the FBI’s legal responsibility under the Federal Records Act (FRA) to recover records, including memos Comey subsequently leaked to the media, unlawfully removed from the Bureau by Comey.

WALL — The Wall Township High School yearbook advisor is suspended indefinitely as the district investigates why photos were edited to remove images supporting President Donald Trump, a district official said Monday.

The paid suspension comes after parents and students complained that at least two photos of students wearing Trump campaign shirts were edited and a Trump quote was removed from beneath another student’s photo.

Yearbook advisor Susan Parsons, a technology/media teacher, could not be reached by phone. A message to Parsons’ school email account was returned as “undeliverable” and a woman reached at her listed address in Wall Township declined to comment.

Parsons has worked in education for 21 years, including 13 in the district, according to state records.

Feinstein: Congress should probe whether Lynch provided cover for Clinton

Sen. Dianne Feinstein on Sunday said Congress should look into former FBI Director James Comey’s revelation that former Attorney General Loretta Lynch asked him to downplay the nature of his investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails.

Testifying before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday, Comey said Lynch had asked him to refer to the probe as a “matter” rather than an investigation, an exchange that he said made him feel queasy.

Rasmussen Reports 52% Say Trump Travel Ban Anti-Terrorist, Not Anti-Muslim

Terrorism France

June 11, 2017

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, according to Rasumussen half of voters still favor President Trump’s temporary travel ban and see it as an anti-terrorist measure, not religious discrimination. Voters also think the U.S. Supreme Court is likely to uphold the ban.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 50% of Likely U.S. Voters favor temporarily barring entry to the United States of people from Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen until the federal government improves its ability to screen out potential terrorists from coming here. Forty-one percent (41%) are opposed. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Support for the ban is down slightly from the mid-50s in late January.

Critics of the travel ban say it is aimed at blocking Muslims from entering the United States, and 39% agree. Fifty-two percent (52%) say Trump’s order is aimed instead at keeping out terrorists. The seven Muslim-majority countries in question were identified by the Obama administration as terrorist havens.

Democrats are far more likely than Republicans and unaffiliated voters to view the temporary ban as anti-Muslim and to oppose it.

Fifty percent (50%) of all voters think the Supreme Court is likely to uphold the president’s temporary travel ban which has been stopped by lower courts, with 21% who say it’s Very Likely. Forty percent (40%) feel the high court is unlikely to uphold the ban, but that includes only 12% who say it is Not At All Likely to do so.

(Want a free daily e-mail update? If it’s in the news, it’s in our polls). Rasmussen Reports updates are also available on Twitter or Facebook.

The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on June 4-5, 2017 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.

Even before the weekend horror in London, 77% of Americans said a terrorist attack like the one days before in Manchester is likely to occur here within the next year, although only 36% say it’s Very Likely.

Most voters of all ages agree that Trump’s travel ban is aimed at keeping out terrorists. But a plurality (48%) of those under 40 oppose the ban, while the majority of their elders favor it.

Seventy-four percent (74%) of Republicans and 56% of unaffiliated voters view the temporary ban as anti-terrorist. Fifty-eight percent (58%) of Democrats see it as anti-Muslim instead. Even more Democrats (64%) oppose the travel ban, while 77% of GOP voters and unaffiliateds by a 50% to 39% margin favor it.

Republicans are much more optimistic than the others, however, that the Supreme Court will uphold the ban.

Ninety-seven percent (97%) of voters who Strongly Approve of the job the president is doing favor the travel ban. Among voters who Strongly Disapprove of Trump’s job performance, 79% oppose it.
