Ridgewood NJ, on January 1, 1983 the New Jersey Transit Police Department was created with 36 police officers who came from the Conrail Police Department. These transferees needed to protect NJ TRANSIT’s infrastructure from vandalism and theft.⁣

New Jersey Transit Police Department’s Office of Emergency Management ,First responders , and Law enforcement Conduct a Training Exercise at Wayne Route 23 Transit Center

Wayne NJ, the New Jersey Transit Police Department’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM), together with additional law enforcement and emergency response partners, conducted a training exercise on Saturday, November 20th at the Wayne Route 23 Transit Center. The exercise began around 9 am and continued for approximately 3 hours.

Beginning November 14th NJ Transit Will Be Adding Additional Trains to Main/Bergen Line and Port Jervis Service

Ridgewood NJ, beginning Sunday, November 14, NJ TRANSIT adds nearly two dozen weekday trains and makes other important adjustments to the schedule to offer rail customers additional travel options throughout the system.  Customers will see additional trains and additional express service on select lines, as well as improved trip times and connections.  Weekend customers on the Main/Bergen County Line will now have hourly service throughout the day on weekends and holidays with the addition of 14 trains to the weekend schedule.  The adjustments are designed to add capacity and frequency as service is matched with current ridership patterns.  The changes are part of NJ TRANSIT’s regular Fall service adjustments.

NJ TRANSIT TECHNICAL SPECIALIST WINS “BUILD A BETTER MOUSETRAP” COMPETITION

Ridgewood NJ, an NJ TRANSIT Bus Operations employee has taken top prize in the important “Build a Better Mousetrap” competition for his invention which assists in the installation and maintenance of a new snow chain system being tested on buses.  The competition seeks out new, innovative and efficient ways to improve the quality and safety of transportation projects. Technical Specialist Marc Franco from the Bus Material and Technical Support division is the first winner from NJ TRANSIT in the competition’s history.

Knife Wielding Man Threatens Conductor at Glen Rock Boro Hall Station

Glen Rock NJ, a maskless adult male commuter train passenger displayed a knife and threatened a NJ Transit conductor who had asked him to put on a mask as the train entered Glen Rock Boro Hall Station, Glen Rock on Wednesday morning, 10/20. The suspect disembarked the train, fleeing the area on foot, and subsequently sought shelter nearby in the home of an acquaintance. An alert Glen Rock Police supervisor observed the individual enter the home and placed a radio call for back up. The home was quickly surrounded by Glen Rock Police and Ridgewood Police officers, who ensured the suspect remained in place until NJ Transit Police officers arrived. Two (2) NJ Transit Police officers placed the individual under arrest shortly after their arrival and transported him to an undisclosed location for processing.

New Jersey Transit Police Officers Help Track Down Hoboken Bank Robbery Suspect

Hoboken NJ, on Thursday, 9/16/21, New Jersey Transit Police Officers were alerted to a report of a bank robbery in Hoboken NJ. Officers initiated checks of the surrounding area for anyone matching the suspect’s description. New Jersey Transit Police Officers Officers Markowitz and Ristovski were patrolling at Hoboken Terminal and observed a matching suspect. The suspect was attempting to flee onboard a Path train. Together with a plain clothes Hoboken Police Detective, the officers handcuffed the suspect and recovered a large sum of money. Uniformed Hoboken Police Officers took custody of the suspect and the New Jersey Transit Police Officers returned to service.
