Reader says , ” I hate taking trees and green space no matter how small “

Train2

” Hated Paul’s giant garage, don’t think at this point we need the smaller version but most of all I hate taking trees and green space no matter how small for more for extra spaces at the Train Station which will not make a difference in the end and will cost commuters an arm and a leg. Also agree with the post about over regulation in the CBD. If anything is going to hurt the downtown businesses it will be this. I almost feel like first come first served would be a better plan and open up the streets with free parking. It has been done on other town “

Reader says , “We have reluctantly decided to give up on Ridgewood”

for sale Ridgewood_Real_Estate_theRodgewopodblog

“Well after almost 30 years in town and countless hours of debate we have reluctantly decided to give up on RW. We raised our children here, made some good friends, and enjoy many aspects of the area. But the village has just sucked every bit of tolerance from us. Property taxes north of $40,000 that will never go down, parking rates that are just ridiculous, can’t water the lawn, rampant nepotism and weak selfish leaders, an awful expensive commute to NYC, and a $111,000,000 school budget have combined to drive us out. All of this with NJ state seeming to do everything it can to also drive people out.

Anyone looking for a nice house on the west side let us know. Wish all well”

Reader asks how can newcomers make Ridgewood great again?

Ridgewood _4thofJuly_theridgewoodblog

” I’ve observed a series of these Ridgewood-trashing posts on this blog. Poorly written, without any details aside from occasional reference to “gargantuan garage” or “getting overwhelmed with affordable housing.”
I’m the afore-mentioned transplant from NYC, although I consider myself a conservative by today’s standards. What’s your message to me exactly? To vote down village exco? To sell my house and move to greener pastures… in Dallas? What exactly are you offering? Where is the link to community events where the Reader gets off his ass and shares with newcomers how to make Ridgewood great again? Where I come from we take leadership and leave complaining to ex wives. Common, Reader, you could do better than that! “

Reader says ,”The town is on a quick decline because of its bad seed of local politicians”

3 amigos in action Ridgewood NJ

“To the anonymous who asks “who would want to move in Ridgewood today” the answer is tons of people from NYC. They are shallow and go by hype. Ask any new family moving into town and they say schools, there you go. They also post in local FB pages and guess what, they ask what’s the best way to get to the city?! Now who moves into a town, buys a house and doesn’t check about their commute beforehand and then start complaining about commute issues from parking to train delays?! They also happen to be liberals/leftists. I bet election over election RW goes blue by at least 10% more.
The town is on a quick decline because of its bad seed of local politicians but most importantly because voter base is totally clueless about what makes a village/town great and better than the place they moved from. “

Ridgewood’s Plastic Bag Ban: Feelings Over Facts

bag ban

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgwood NJ, Even The New York Times knows plastic bag bans only make people feel good, they don’t help anything. The Brits ran a real study and found:
“The study found that an avid shopper would have to reuse his or her cotton bag 131 timesbefore it had a smaller global warming impact than a lightweight plastic bag used only once. And, depending on the make, more durable plastic bags would have to be used at least 4 to 11 times before they made up for their heftier upfront climate costs.”
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/29/climate/plastic-paper-shopping-bags.html
And yet Village Councilman Mike Sedon spoke enthusiastically from the dais about the ban and then a new tax on bags. The facts don’t match the rhetoric or emotions behind the “ban bags” push. New taxes on Ridgewood’s’ already overtaxed residents make no sense either!
Stop the madness at Village Hall, more taxes and more bans on this and that aren’t doing anything. Leave us alone.

Reader says , “I am certain that there would be fewer accidents if drivers paid attention to the road and not their electronic devices when driving”

public saftey cbd theridgewoodblog.net

” I am certain that there would be fewer accidents if drivers paid attention to the road and not their electronic devices when driving. Also , when I walk in the CBD I wait for cars to stop and let me cross and they often do not especially on Broad Street in front of the Super Cellars area and Union St. in back of Talbots. Why? because there are no police there. Cars stop in front of Van Neste Square because there are police cars there watching.
Cars are vehicles controlled by people. Many of the people driving cars hate other people and would just as soon run over someone and kill them. Have you noticed in the news how many hit and run driving incidents there are. The question is why are so many people so hateful. Is it because the area is expensive and crowded; is it some kind of me first attitude, and you can go to hell. Of course those things all contribute. Does anyone know other reasons , or the reason? “
