Readers debate the Future City of Ridgewood

unnamed-12

“What is wrong with everyone? Cities with great access to public transportation need to grow through efficient, multi unit housing like this project. Cars need to vanish! This is good for tax base, local business, community diversity, etc. Someone wrote “donate the land”. Would you do that if you owned the property? Come on! Sounds like Bernie to me!”

“Cars will not vanish and you know it. You’re tellin me that the apartment dwellers won’t have cars. You know they will. Who says the apt. dweller on Broad street has to work in NYC? Even if they work in NYC on weekends and even during the week they will drive around Joisey. Even to local supermarkets, they will drive their SUVs. They won’t be pushin groceries up East Ridgewood Ave. in a cart. They will use their car as much as you use yours. The residents in Ridgewood who work in NYC still use their cars. What will happen to Ridgewood is just the OPPOSITE of what you say. There will be tons more Traffic, cars, SUVs you name it. It will be hellish to drive here. Hey, it already is hellish to drive in Ridgewood. Unlike you I cannot predict what impact a hellish neighborhood traffic situation will have on people wanting to move here. I sure wouldn’t move here. I moved here in the 1970s when traffic was , not entirely, but much more peaceful. Would I move here now, NO.”

Openly Gay Reader Takes on Local Race baiters

DSC00793 e1559437286758

“The slippery slope argument that many of you are using is a well-known logical fallacy. It ignores the possibility of a middle ground and takes everything to its extreme. There are endless solutions to decide whether something is offensive or appropriate, including commissions and the council itself. Subjectivity is inherent to democracy itself and there’s nothing in our society that isn’t deemed acceptable or not except by society itself. Stop using fear mongering to justify your opposition to a policy just because you’re not comfortable being honest about the reasons behind your true opposition to it (homophobia).”

Reader states : “You with all the long paragraphs. Stop being so condescending and superior. I am not homophobic. I am openly gay. And I think the flagpole was a big mistake. I do not need a rainbow flag to live my life. And I do not want the possibility of hateful flags. Come down off your high horse. objecting does not make a person homophobic.”

Reader Says Ridgewood Water “is on par with some third world systems”

Water3_theridgewoodblog

file photo by Boyd Loving

“This just does not seem to be a quality product.

Ridgewood water has a hardness level of 21 g, neighboring utilities, in the worse case was 7 g, water is considered “hard” above 5. This is off the charts, and effects everything from appliances effectiveness and servicing, washing dishes, showers, etc. Our particles (solids) level in the water is excessive, 121 per million, far above the next worse at 45 per million. This is on par with some third world systems. As for water on lawns and scrubs, I guess we can let it all go, would continue our slide towards a city environment, I recall we used to give awards for the nicest lawns and gardens.

Leaving RW Water in place with their ineffective management, sub par systems, ridiculous water rules, and terrible product cant really be the right path.”

Ridgewood NJ, earlier this week residents pointed out that the Ridgewood public Library was collecting emails using an unsecure gmail account.

It appears as though the Library has just (today, 6/19) removed all references to the rgwdteens@gmail account from their website, and also removed the hyperlink to an on line questionnaire for volunteer positions in which personal identifying information was being solicited.

Storytime at Graydon Pool this summer-Thursday afternoons

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, For the past nineteen years, the Parks and Recreation Department has been hosting a children’s  “Storytime” program at Graydon Pool on Thursday afternoons, in the kiddie section at 3:30pm.

This weekly program runs throughout July and August. Generally, we host about 25-30, early elementary  school children each week. They gather each Thursday under the sunshade and are truly excited to listen  to a short story and participate in either a simple craft, a song or a game which correlates to the story read.
