“What is wrong with everyone? Cities with great access to public transportation need to grow through efficient, multi unit housing like this project. Cars need to vanish! This is good for tax base, local business, community diversity, etc. Someone wrote “donate the land”. Would you do that if you owned the property? Come on! Sounds like Bernie to me!”
“Cars will not vanish and you know it. You’re tellin me that the apartment dwellers won’t have cars. You know they will. Who says the apt. dweller on Broad street has to work in NYC? Even if they work in NYC on weekends and even during the week they will drive around Joisey. Even to local supermarkets, they will drive their SUVs. They won’t be pushin groceries up East Ridgewood Ave. in a cart. They will use their car as much as you use yours. The residents in Ridgewood who work in NYC still use their cars. What will happen to Ridgewood is just the OPPOSITE of what you say. There will be tons more Traffic, cars, SUVs you name it. It will be hellish to drive here. Hey, it already is hellish to drive in Ridgewood. Unlike you I cannot predict what impact a hellish neighborhood traffic situation will have on people wanting to move here. I sure wouldn’t move here. I moved here in the 1970s when traffic was , not entirely, but much more peaceful. Would I move here now, NO.”
This was the idiocy of the Mayor Airbag regime. If you want a city – – then go and move to a city. No one is stopping you.
And if you don’t want something less than a city, don’t move to Ridgewood. No one is making you.
And take Airbag with you when you leave!!
A longtime Allendale resident told me yesterday when I said I lived in Ridgewood that she and her husband used to shop and dine in Ridgewood often, but stopped some time ago because of the parking. I am not a troll–true story.
Ridgewood is in a state of diminishing returns. It’s slowly losing that specialness that it once had and is slowly becoming just another commuter town where people raise kids. Real estate signs are everywhere. If you think otherwise, then you are being delusional.
The first comment is great, the Aug. 26 comment. It should be posted on a plaque when you enter Ridgewood and at various places around town. It represents exactly the attitude and the way people talk here, their use of language, their ability to express their feelings with wry wit and elegance. In short it perfectly represents Most vulgar People in vulgar Ridgewood . McMansions and Money do not elegance make.
Zilch on class , refinement and manners here.
This is no longer a “charming village” with “great schools” “good roads and parking” “wonderful shopping” . It is just another commuter town – wait till all the apts go in…..

.
Not “slowly becoming.
Became.
.
It’s a done deal.
It happened AT LEAST 20 years ago.
It’s just been accelerating, like a pebble rolling down a mountain.
.
Deputy mayor’s visioning project will fix everything….?no?
