Gold Star Mother’s Day Commemoration – September 29

Gold Star Mother’s Day Commemoration – September 29

On Sunday, September 29, 2013 our Nation honors our Gold Star Mothers and families. The Presidential Proclamation in 2011 commemorating this day pronounces, “As members of a grateful Nation, we owe a debt we can never repay, but hold this sacred obligation forever in our hearts, minds, and actions. We honor their sacrifice, and stand with our service members, military families, and Gold Star families as they have stood for us.” The American Legion Post 53 and Ridgewood NJ’s Blue Star Families are committed to bringing awareness to our community and to commemorate the sacrifices these mothers and their families have made for our Country.

In the aftermath of World War I, Washington D.C. resident Grace Darling Seibold formed an organization called Gold Star Mothers to support the moms who had lost sons and daughters to the war. Grace’s son, First Lieutenant George Vaughn Seibold, was an aviator killed in combat over France in 1918. In 1928, the small D.C.-based group decided to nationalize its efforts. In 1936, a joint congressional resolution established the last Sunday in September as Gold Star Mother’s Day. The Gold Star Mothers grew from a support group of 60 women to today’s extensive nationwide network with tens of thousands of members and hundreds of local chapters.

In Ridgewood, NJ we again will commemorate Gold Star Mother’s Day with an event on Sunday, September 29th at Van Neste Park. There will be a ceremony at 7:00 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. and the luminaries will be lit from 7 – 9 p.m. to honor Gold Star Mothers and their families, but in addition, the goal is to see thousands of other luminaries lit throughout Ridgewood and other towns on September 29th to honor the Gold Star Mothers and families!

Everyone can stand together in honoring the Gold Star Mothers and families by helping to raise awareness through:

• talking to your family, friends, and neighbors about the event;

• joining us at Van Neste Park; and,

• supporting this event with a donation (please make checks payable to the American Legion Post #53, write “Gold Star event” on the memo line, and send it to the American Legion Post #53, P.O. Box 1525, Ridgewood, NJ 07450).

Abortion Nation
America is only 1 of 4 countries to allow abortions post-viability.
11:58 AM, Sep 20, 2013 • By JONATHAN V. LAST

It’s easy to become inured to the state of abortion in the United States, but every so often someone sends a shock to the system.

In a new book about the history of Roe, Abuse of Discretion, lawyer Clarke Forsythe combs through the historical record of the Supreme Court’s decision, from case files to personal papers, to show exactly how pell-mell the verdict was. And in the course of all this he highlights how out-of-the-norm America’s abortion regime is.

Here’s Forsythe:

The United States is an outlier when it comes to the scope of the abortion “right.” The United States is one of approximately ten nations (of 195) that allow abortion after fourteen weeks of gestation. The others are: Canada, China, Great Britain, North Korea, the Netherlands, Singapore, Sweden, Western Australia, and Vietnam. When it comes to allowing abortion for any reason after viability, however, the United States is joined only by Canada, North Korea, and China. The United States got into this situation because after the second round of arguments in Roe and Doe, the Justices abruptly decided to expand the abortion right they were creating to fetal viability—and then beyond. For forty years, this abrupt decision has had profound implications for late-term abortions, live-birth abortions, and women’s health.

Jeff Feagles glad to be NFL Heads Up Ambassador
NFL Communications
Updated: Sept. 18, 2013 at 04:39 p.m.

NFL HEALTH AND SAFETY UPDATE — SEPT. 18, 2013

Q&A WITH HEADS UP FOOTBALL AMBASSADOR JEFF FEAGLES

A retired 22-year NFL veteran, Jeff Feagles serves as a Heads Up Football Ambassador for the Ridgewood Junior Football Association (RJFA) in Ridgewood, New Jersey. Feagles, a former punter, earned Pro Bowl selections in 1995 and 2008 and won a Super Bowl ring with the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII. Feagles spoke about his role as a coach and Ambassador.

Why did you decide to become involved in Heads Up Football? Why is it important to you?

Once I finished coaching at the junior football level, which I did for seven years, I still wanted to be involved in the program. When I found out about Heads Up Football, I figured this would be great not only for me, but for our program. This was important to me for two reasons: 1) the safety of our children and the importance of training coaches on proper tackling; and 2) I wanted to try and get parents — whose kids do not play football because they think it is too dangerous — to understand how Heads Up Football can change their perspective.

What do you hope to share with the youth football players throughout the season?

I am hoping to share the correct way to tackle and use the fundamentals the coaches have been taught in practice and games. I want the players to grasp the terminology all the coaches are using. I also want the players to feel comfortable with what we are teaching and be able to self-coach, monitor and correct the other players if they are doing something incorrect.

How have you seen attitudes towards sports safety change?

The attitude among our coaches has been very positive. At first, most of them were skeptical about teaching this new technique. Once I was able to host a clinic and they were certified online, the concept and reality kicked in for the coaches. The most encouraging sign I have seen has come from the parents. They are very excited that there is a protocol for concussions.

PSE&G Warns Customers About Phone Scam

PSE&G Warns Customers About Phone Scam
September 19, 2013

(Newark, NJ – Sept. 19, 2013) PSE&G is once again urging its customers to be vigilant to a telephone scam where callers threaten to shut off electric or gas service if payment is not made that day.

Residential and small business customers have reported receiving these deceptive phone calls from individuals pretending to be PSE&G employees. The callers demand that customers make a payment within hours using a Green Dot Money Pak, a type of pre-paid card available at pharmacies and convenience stores. PSE&G does not accept these cards. The utility offers a variety of payment options, and would never require a customer to use one specific type of payment.

Any customer who has doubts about the legitimacy of a call from PSE&G — especially one in which payment is requested — should call the utility directly at 1-800-436-PSEG (7734).

folks careful………

On September 13, 2013 Ridgewood Police report a Ridgewood Resident reported that she had received a call that her grandson was in jail and needed money to be bailed out. The victim made two transfers to the Dominican Republic. The victim later found that her grandson was not in jail. The matter is under investigation by the Ridgewood Detective Bureau.

Lonegan Questions : Were Booker’s Law Firm Payouts Illegal?

Lonegan Questions : Were Booker’s Law Firm Payouts Illegal?
September 18m 2013

“Cory Booker claims he separated from the law firm, but he has kept the separation agreement secret, if there even is one,” Lonegan said. “The public has not seen any document or any other evidence that he is not still an employee of the law firm.”

WEST ORANGE, NJ – Mayor Steve Lonegan, Republican candidate for the United States Senate, challenged Cory Booker to disclose his purported separation agreement with the law firm Trenk DiPasquale because serious questions have been raised concerning the firm’s contracts totaling over $2 million with Newark, while Booker was mayor. Most disturbingly, Booker has reportedly received hundreds of thousands of dollars in private payments from the firm at the same time these lucrative contracts were awarded by his Administration.

“Cory Booker claims he separated from the law firm, but he has kept the separation agreement secret, if there even is one,” Lonegan said. “The public has not seen any document or any other evidence that he is not still an employee of the law firm.”

The evidence available indicates he is still an employee and includes reports that:

Booker continued to receive substantial checks from Trenk DiPasquale from 2007 to 2011;
Booker received a 50% raise from Trent DiPasquale in 2009, long after he allegedly separated from the firm; and
Booker indicated on his tax returns that he ‘materially participated’ in the law firm while mayor.

Lonegan said that in light of all this evidence, “Cory Booker should publish his separation agreement to show that these payouts were not kickbacks.”

In criticizing Booker for awarding taxpayer-funded contracts to the firm, Lonegan cited the American Bar Association’s Model Code of Professional Responsibility (EC 9-6), which requires that every lawyer must “strive to avoid not only professional impropriety but also the appearance of impropriety.” He also cited New Jersey statute 40:73-2, which says:

40:73-2. No officer or employee to be interested in contracts

No officer or employee, elected or appointed in any such municipality shall be interested, directly or indirectly, in any contract or job for work or materials, or the profits thereof, or services to be furnished or performed for the municipality, and no such officer or employee shall be interested, directly or indirectly, in any contract or job for work or materials or the profits thereof, or services to be furnished or performed, for any person operating interurban railway, street railway, gas works, waterworks, electric light or power plant, heating plant, telegraph line, telephone exchange, or other public utility within the territorial limits of the municipality.

“Newark awarding these contracts while Booker was mayor certainly has the appearance of impropriety,” Lonegan said. “If Cory Booker received Trenk DiPasquale payoffs because he shuffled taxpayer-funded business their way, it is truly disheartening and potentially criminal. As an attorney, Cory Booker should know what the appearance of impropriety is, and it certainly exists here.”

Pegan Pride Project

Pegan Pride Project

The Pagan Pride Project is a non-profit organization. The primary purposes of this corporation shall be the advancement of religion and elimination of prejudice and discrimination based on religious beliefs.

The mission of the Pagan Pride Project is to foster pride in Pagan identity through education, activism, charity and community.

Defining the Mission Statement:

We try to keep our purpose balanced through the inspirations of Air, Fire, Water, and Earth:

Air: Education
We’re never going to be able to practice our spiritual paths openly if we don’t give the public accurate information about what we do and do not do.

Fire: Activism
People aren’t necessarily going to go out of their way to find out what Pagans really do. We have to have the courage to act on our convictions and do what we need to do.

Water: Charity
We know that what we do returns to us. We need to demonstrate this by offering compassion to our communities where it is needed. When we share our own abundance, we show that we trust the Gods to share abundance with us in return.

Earth: Community
We’re never going to be able to practice openly if we don’t know anyone else in our local Pagan communities. We need to weave networking webs in our cities, in our towns, in our rural areas. We need these webs to support one another. That support will also show those who would restrict our practice that we are not just a few isolated wackos, but are a growing congregation of people who adhere to a faith that, while different, is as valid as their own.

Why Support the Pagan Pride Project?

Through education, activism, charity and community, the project promotes tolerance and understanding between people with different belief systems. If you are a Pagan, the project can help you find pride and confidence in your path. If you are not a Pagan, the project can help you understand your Pagan friends, coworkers, and family members.

Update : Graydon Pool – ADA Sloped Entry Ramp

Update : Graydon Pool – ADA Sloped Entry Ramp – Update – 9/13/13

NJ Historic Preservation Office Opinion Letter

DEP Flood Hazard Letter

9/13/13 Update Below –

For two years the Village Council, Community, and Village Staff have discussed options to increase accessibility into Graydon Pool.

A ramp allowing direct access into the pool has been designed and was approved by the Council. Based on recent discussions with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), that plan was revised accordingly. We are now waiting for DEP approval.

Esurance
9/13/13 The revised design for the sloped entry to Graydon Pool has subtle changes which include –

• Horizontally, things did not change except for the lengthening of the initial approach ramp from the existing patio to provide a better vertical envelope to create the necessary slopes.

• Vertically, the changes are also minor, but primarily involved lowering the designed ramp to satisfy the NJDEP criteria that there is no impediment to flood flows in the flood hazard area. The first landing once in the pool is now at 78.04 and under the water, whereas before it had been set at 78.40 and above the water surface elevation. Water surface elevation of the pool is at 78.29. The ramp is cut more into the grade around the pool, again to satisfy NJDEP.

• The ramp lowering was accomplished without the need for railings on either side of the accessible path to the pool.

• There will be decorative stonework placed on the areas of the ramp that are above the pool’s water surface elevation matching the existing stonework around the pool.

EARTHQUAKE:Gun Rights Hold Victorious both Colorado Democratic State Senators Recalled!

2ndAmendment_s640x427
EARTHQUAKE:Gun Rights Hold Victorious both Colorado Democratic State Senators Recalled!
September 11, 2013
Jim Geraghty

I went to bed convinced Second Amendment advocates and their allies had fought to a split decision in Colorado. In the early returns, it appeared that the issue of gun rights, while powerful, could hit a wall in districts where the demographics insulate a Democrat from discontent among her gun-owning constituents.

Nope:

An epic national debate over gun rights in Colorado on Tuesday saw two Democratic state senators ousted for their support for stricter laws, a “ready, aim, fired” message intended to stop other politicians for pushing for firearms restrictions. Senate President John Morse and Sen. Angela Giron will be replaced in office with Republican candidates who petitioned onto the recall ballot.

Party insiders always said Giron’s race was the harder one. Although her district is heavily Democratic, Pueblo is a blue-collar union town. Morse’s district included Manitou Springs and a portion of Colorado Springs — and more liberals.

Our Charlie Cooke, on the ground in Colorado Springs:

Nevertheless, by the end of the process, so anxious were the opponents of the recall that they felt compelled to rely heavily on Michael Bloomberg, who sent $350,000 to Colorado to fight the threat; members of Obama’s ground team were brought in to boost turnout, and even former president Bill Clinton was wheeled in at the last minute to try to tip the scales.

None of it worked. This was the recall that was never supposed to happen — let alone be successful. The nine men who set the ball rolling weren’t supposed to be capable of organizing a town hall, let alone taking down the state-senate president. And yet they did it. Victor Head, a 29-year-old plumber who had never been politically active, took down a senator in a district that went Democratic in 2012 by ten points; a group of six concerned men from the AR15.com chat room removed the state’s top-ranking legislator. “We are a quiet people,” recall founder Tim Knight told his victorious friends when the results became known at the Stargazers Theater. “You may be tempted to ignore us. Clearly, that would be a mistake.”
