Delta Pulls Ads From ‘Daily Show’ Over ‘Vagina Manger’

(BUZZFEED) Catholic League president Bill Donohue declared an early victory in his campaign against the Daily Show for a joke about a “vagina manger,” after Delta Airlines pulled its advertising from the program.

Donohue also pledged in a press release to continue his campaign. His next target: Kellogg’s, whose executives can expect to receive photographs of the obscene stunt.

Delta spokeswoman Leslie Parker confirmed to BuzzFeed that the airline pulled its advertising last week. Parker said that “We are constantly evaluating our advertising strategy and at this time no longer advertise during The Daily Show,” and denied that the decision had anything to do with “any opinions expressed” by the show.

Donohue outlined his attack strategy against Kellogg’s on the Catholic League website today: “Today, all the top management at Kellogg’s will receive a color photo of a naked woman with her legs spread and a nativity scene ornament in between. Let’s see if that jars them. Over 700 photos have been sent to leaders in Battle Creek, Michigan.”

In new Christie budget, the surcharge on your electricity bill returns

That surcharge on your electricity bill that’s supposed to be deployed to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy?

Starting in July, the state is siphoning $240 million from it to pay its own utility bills and buy fuel for NJ Transit buses and trains.

That $250 million sitting in municipalities’ coffers intended to expand the stock of affordable housing in one of the nation’s most expensive states to buy or rent a home?  (Symons, Gannett)

In Shades of the May 2010 council election Jamboree email list compromised by Paul Aronsohn

Jamboree theridgewoodblog.net

In Shades of the May 2010 council election Jamboree email list compromised by Paul Aronsohn

Use of the email list of any organization that accepts tax-exempt donations under 501(c)(3) for anything remotely related to political purposes, including municipal elections, violates federal tax law and could lead to an investigation, fines, and/or the loss of tax-exempt status.

From https://www.rhsjamboree.org/html/what_is_jamboree.html/:

“The Jamboree Scholarship Fund, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) qualified charity and all contributions are tax deductible.”

Aronsohn’s CV says his undergraduate degree is in political communications. (That’s a major?) Did he skip class that day?

Jamboree officers might consider sending a follow-up message to the full Jamboree email list stating that the Aronsohn campaign message could damage Jamboree’s tax-exempt status and should be disregarded?

Shades of the recent school board election too, for that matter! Didn’t a certain candidate for a seat there also do something quite similar involving the mailing list of a tax-exempt group??

It is just another example of the many tactics Mr. Aronsohn has tried to use with just about everything for quite some time now. Some have become much more apparent recently – but tactics are what he’s about. His agenda is him — and only him.

It almost seems bipolar – but it’s not– it’s self-centered, tactics-laden politics — lotsa form, and not much real substance except to attack anyone and anything he perceives stands in his way. Divide and conquer, attack dog style politics- with all the hype, spin and other baloney that go with it. Sound familiar?

At least to me, that’s not what we need in local government here at all- and most especially right now. We need to work together and focus on real solutions — without all the noise of endless posturing, grandstanding and politics.

I hope enough people see him for what he is and vote accordingly. If they do, he will not be on the VC much longer.

Report: Principal Created ‘Suzy’ Facebook Page To Snoop On Students

May 7, 2012 7:53 AM

CLAYTON, Mo. (KMOX) – The principal at Clayton High School has resigned after stories surfaced claiming that she created a bogus Facebook account to spy on students.

The official reason given for Dr. Louise Losos’ resignation was a “fundamental dispute concerning the appropriate use of social media”.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that Clayton students began getting friend requests from someone calling themselves “Suzy Harriston,” and many approved her without a second thought.

Reader unloads on Candidate Paul Aronsohn

It is an absolute truth that Paul Aonsohn told residents to vote for him and not for Gwen and Al. People have been talking about bullet voting for Killion and Shinozuka he said ” you can vote for me and not Gwen and Al”. This happened right after his pathetic debate endorsement of Hauck and Puciarelli. Before anyone even left the room. Paul knows many people have been talking about bullet voting and he is making every attempt at damage control.

So he told people they could also choose to vote for him, keith and Jane. Aronsohn is playing both sides of this and people are seeing what he really is. Hopefully the election tomorrow will result in a farewell to this two-faced, backstabbing, bully and liar who has misrepresented everything he has done or failed to do as a councilman for four years.

How dare he walk around and talk about his support for the library when he rarely to never even bothered to attend meetings!
How dare Aronsohn talk about revitalizing downtown! Where has he been for four years? Hasn’t he been the council liaison to Chamber?

How he dare he attack another candidate for supposedly being “dissed” over a polite email exchange. How old is Paul Aronsohn? What is he a 13-year-old girl? Yes, Jane teaches CCD with Marie Aronshohn. So while the ladies are teaching the commandments “thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor”, Aronsohn is doing just that with his disgusting and disgraceful lies. What a jerk.

Now the bitter frosting on the vitriolic cake: How dare Aronsohn compromise the Jamboree Scholarship Foundation to advance his candidacy? He used the Jamoboree (social) email list to advance his candidacy and many people are disgusted. Paul Aronsohn is a disgrace and should never be permitted to sit with our fine elected officials again. Please bullet for Killion and Shinizouka.

The HSA Phone-a-thon for RHS Library fell short of its goal

The HSA Phone-a-thon for RHS Library fell short of its goal

The HSA Phone-a-thon fell short of its goal, raising $48,000 – still quite a bit of money. Last year people gave, but they did not realize that this would be an annual event. It is like feeding a stray cat, they will keep coming back.

The library renovation should be part of the school budget. By putting this important project aside, the BOE thought that they could pass their budget without a vote. Then they phone the parents for money. The library renovation should have been in the budget and some of the sports spending should have been removed. Priorities people! All students can use the library, but the benefits of the lighted turf field are questionable.

Have a Phone-a-thon for field maintenance or to pay the lighting bill, or to pay for the over-priced football program.

Readers Handicap Village Council Candidates

My take on Forenza is he’s a bureaucrat… and we have too many of those at VH as it is right now. Yes, he knows budgets and it seems he knows overtime real well too. I don’t agree with some of his positions, don’t know his views on some issues, but I do not feel he’d be good to have on the VC . We need less overhead and bureaucracy, more focus on the basics like infrastructure and to stop spending on all the other stuff until we put our house in order financially and get the basic stuff that’s been neglected for years back into good shape. I don’t see him being part of that process.

My take on Hauck: Lots of form, but little substance. Nice web site with obviously very professional pics of her in front of VH etc. But not much substance I could find there, nor much in the way of original thought. Most of the content is articles written by others.

That’s OK as far as it goes, but what are some of her original thoughts, views and positions about the many issues we all face here now? There was also no info on her site about the Valley issue, though I think her position on that one is pretty clear. But what about all the other stuff?

In the Monday night session, she clearly didn’t have the best evening, read mostly from notes and seemed to need questions repeated (which is fine). But there too I didn’t see much substance, really.

My take on Pucciarelli: Obviously very smart, plenty of relevant experience. Substance is not an issue with him– he brings a lot to the table. Valley issue is a problem in that he must recuse himself, and has done so on PB in the past. But otherwise he might be a valuable asset to have on the VC.

Big negative for me was Aronsohn’s endorsement of him (along with Hauck). If Aronsohn endorsed me, I’d be quick to say no thanks, don’t count me as being in your camp.

My take on Aronsohn: I’ve written before how I started thinking about this election inclined to support him. After doing a lot of review and homework though, I concluded that was very misguided. While his position (of the moment anyhow) aligns with mine on some issues, there are too many other negatives, the biggest of which is I don’t feel I can trust him.
Says he’s for rescinding the H zone amendments, but at same time gets up and endorses others who are for current Valley plan. Says his agenda is Ridgewood’s interests only — first and foremost. Change “Ridgewood” above to “Paul” and I think that might be more accurate. Took taxpayer paid benefits for part time VC service when no one else did so, then wouldn’t disclose it until only very recently.

Doubt very much he’s someone who will really control spending and focus on getting the basics fixed and stop all the “adventures” we’ve had here for quite some time now. Talks about need to walk and chew gum at same time… feels Killion can’t … yet then proceeds to endorse Hauck, who didn’t seem too skilled Monday night on that to me.

My take on Shinozuka: I support her, I think for one thing it’s time for her part of town to have VC representation. In addition, while perhaps not a polished speaker, she comes off as smart, sincere, caring.
Most impt, to me, her agenda seems only Ridgewood and doing what she thinks is right for the Village. She clearly states her positions, and I have not heard her flip flop as some others certainly have done. Of the positions she’s stated, I tend to agree with most of her views. I also like that she doesn’t grandstand and seems honest, articulate and to have the right kind of experience and skill set to provide good representation on the VC. For me, she’s a good choice overall.

My take on Killion: I support him too. In fairness, I’ve known him since we were kids here — but I do not base my support on that. Fact is I have disagreed with some of his positions -sometimes strongly so. But it is very clear to me that his agenda is only what he feels is in Ridgewood’s best interest. He is responsible and responsive to residents.

Very importantly to me, Keith spends a huge amount of time on Ridgewood’s interests- much more than nearly all other Mayors and VC members have done. That’s a huge plus – at least to me.

He also knows how impt it is to stop all the spending on too many “projects” and focus on getting the infrastructure fixed, and on preserving the very things that made Ridgewood the Village it is – which is what attracted so many to want to live here in the first place. I feel that by far he is the best Mayor we’ve had here in a long time.

Village Council Elections: I hope Aronsohn is NOT re-elected. I used to be for him

Village Council Elections: I hope Aronsohn is NOT re-elected. I used to be for him

hope Aronsohn is NOT re-elected. I used to be for him, but after studying and reviewing a lot he has said and done, I no longer support him. I based my change in position not on what went on the other night alone, but on looking at many other things during his current term of service.

But I very much favor repealing those H Zone amendments and have said so many times before, including on this blog.

There must be a way to do that without endless lawsuits and legal wrangling. Why can’t the PB simply conclude that its predecessor members made a mistake in approving the amendments in the first place?

It should be easy to demonstrate grounds for that, since when the very same experts were queried by the VC, a lot of impt. new information sure came to light.

So why can’t the current PB simply cite that as proof its predecessor board did not get the full info as to the impact on the Village, and then decide based on those grounds that it should rescind the Amendments the previous Board passed?

Keith and several others were NOT on the PB that adopted those amendments, by the way. Tom Riche was however.

I don’t know the legal ramifications or procedures. I do know though that often what seems common sense and simple logic does not always work like that within the legal system, which can impose all kinds of other hurdles to something that ought to be relatively simple.

And by the way, I am not against Valley expanding or modernizing though I am against it’s current plan. With another plan that’s more modest, I might support that — depends on the details.

Maybe Aronsohn says he’s for rescinding the amendments because he knows there’s some legal problem with doing that? After all, he’s on the VC and has been privy to any internal discussions they’ve had about all this– along with the Vill Attorney etc.

So if he knows there’s a reason it can’t be done legally… but it’s popular in some circles to have that position — well, that seems like vintage Aronsohn to me based on looking at how he’s handled other things during his time in office.

Given his new endorsement of Hauck, who clearly supports Valley’s current plan, that sure gets me thinking… otherwise why would he say he’s opposed to Valley’s plan –yet endorse others for the VC who clearly have the exact opposite view and have said so?

I’ve lost any real trust in Paul after doing a lot of homework and I’m sad to say I feel his agenda is not really Ridgewood– it’s him — and only him.

Could an attorney -or maybe one of our highly paid Village officials pls tell the rest of us what exactly ARE the impediments legally to the current PB rescinding those amendments? Why can’t it work (for instance) like poster #4 above describes?

Obama administration urges freer access to cellphone records

Obama administration urges freer access to cellphone records

(Reuters) – The U.S. Congress should pass a law to give investigators freer access to certain cellphone records, an Obama administration official said on Thursday, in remarks that raised concern among advocates of civil liberties and privacy.

Jason Weinstein, a deputy assistant attorney general in the Justice Department’s criminal division, argued that requirements for warrants at early stages of investigations would “cripple” prosecutors and law enforcement.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled this year that a warrant was needed to put a GPS satellite tracking device on a suspect’s vehicle, prompting questions about other instances where probable-cause warrants should be needed to obtain information in the rapidly changing world of mobile devices.

One in seven thinks end of world is coming: poll
By Chris Michaud
NEW YORK | Tue May 1, 2012 6:46pm EDT

(Reuters) – – Nearly 15 percent of people worldwide believe the world will end during their lifetime and 10 percent think the Mayan calendar could signify it will happen in 2012, according to a new poll.

The end of the Mayan calendar, which spans about 5,125 years, on December 21, 2012 has sparked interpretations and suggestions that it marks the end of the world.

“Whether they think it will come to an end through the hands of God, or a natural disaster or a political event, whatever the reason, one in seven thinks the end of the world is coming,” said Keren Gottfried, research manager at Ipsos Global Public Affairs which conducted the poll for Reuters.

Maybe no housing rebound for a generation: Shiller
April 24, 2012|Reuters

NEW YORK (Reuters) – The Housing market is likely to remain weak and may take a generation or more to rebound, Yale economics professor Robert Shiller told Reuters Insider on Tuesday.

Shiller, the co-creator of the Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller home price index, said a weak labor market, high gas prices and a general sense of unease among consumers was outweighing low mortgage rates and would likely keep a lid on prices for the foreseeable future.

Insight: Falling home prices drag new buyers under water

By Tim Reid
Thu Apr 26, 2012 1:12pm EDT

(Reuters) – More than 1 million Americans who have taken out mortgages in the past two years now owe more on their loans than their homes are worth, and Federal Housing Administration loans that require only a tiny down payment are partly to blame.

That figure, provided to Reuters by tracking firm CoreLogic, represents about one out of 10 home loans made during that period.

It is a sobering indication the U.S. housing market remains deeply troubled, with home values still falling in many parts of the country, and raises the question of whether low-down payment loans backed by the FHA are putting another generation of buyers at risk.

What a difference a day makes – in the mortgage business

By Michael Fidanza

These days, it is not uncommon to see mortgage rates below 4%, however, many buyers have seen rates over 4% when the date of the closing rolls in. What is the reason for this? Shane Force of Atlantic Home Loans has a simple explanation:

“It used to be that mortgage rates fixed once every week, so you used to have some time to think about locking in on a rate. In today’s global economy, a hiccup in the Middle East could cause a quarter-point swing.” Force adds, “Many people wait for the perfect time to lock in – hoping that rates will drop and only watch as rates creep up. If someone locks in at a higher rate and the market moves significantly, we will work with them to get a better rate.”

This is a great reason to start your home shopping with a reputable lender. There are issues that you may want to address before you even click ‘search’ on your favorite real estate site.

In regards to financing, here are some things to think about when considering purchasing a home:

– Have your documentation ready. Don’t wait until the last minute to get your bank statements, W-2’s, paystubs or income statements. You may want to have your accountant get the paperwork in order.
-If you have less than perfect credit, you may want to start working with a lender who has a program to rehabilitate your FICO score. A FICO score of under 720 starts adding hundreds of dollars per month to a payment. FHA / VA programs, first time home buyers
-First-time home buyer, FHA and VA loans can help get a would-be new homeowner.
-Sub-prime mortgages as well as low- or no-documentation loan days are all but over but money to lend is more available than it has been since 2008.
-Know how long you want to be in your new home. There may be loan options for newlyweds who are buying small to start a family and may move up in 5-7 years.orld events cause 1/4 pt —- Online mortgage companies may tempt you with low rates but lack the knowledge of the local market and will never meet with you fact-to-face and try to understand your specific situation.
-Be prepared to walk away from a bad deal…one way to avoid is to get a personal recommendation from a relative or friend who has worked with a mortgage lender before.

Be proactive! By shopping for a mortgage banker before you shop for a home, you will save yourself time, trouble and stress that are inherent in the home buying process.

Village Council Elections: Jane Shinozuka , gives some back ground to readers

Jane Shinozuka , gives some back ground to readers

Jane Shinozuka , gives some back ground to readers .I’ve actually been been on the Planning Board for 17 months. True, not an eternity, but long enough to understand the issues. I didn’t even address the Valley issue specifically when I first entered the race – I waited until I was asked and simply gave an honest answer.

If you give me your email or mailing info I’d be happy to send you my campaign flyer. My list (from the flyer) of some of Ridgewood’s most pressing issues is copied and pasted below:

Responsible municipal spending
Caution regarding over-development and land use
Consistent attention to pedestrian safety
Revitalization of our downtown shopping area
Improved communication from Village Hall
Protecting our natural and open spaces

For your reference, I’ve also included my current community service activities. More detail about my past volunteer history can also be found on the flyer.

Ridgewoood Planning Board
BFMS Executive Board
Federated HSA Safety Committee
Salem Ridge Association Board of Governors
OLMC CCD Group Leader

I do have a website — www.ShinozukaForCouncil.com. Unfortunately, I’m not an expert at managing a site, so some of my most recent info is yet to be posted. I expect to fix all that within a day or so.

Thanks,

Jane Shinozuka
