Maywood NJ, A Saturday afternoon workout turned into a chaotic scene of violence at a popular Bergen County gym. On April 25, 2026, Maywood police responded to reports of an emotionally disturbed individual at the HUMC Fitness and Wellness Center on Route 17, resulting in a physical confrontation that left four officers injured and a gym patron shaken.

The Incident: Chaos in the Locker Room

According to Maywood Police Chief Terrence Kenny, the disturbance began in the men’s locker room. Officer John Burns was the first on the scene, where he discovered 34-year-old Kyle Delarosa of Emerson. Delarosa, who was completely naked at the time, was allegedly pinning a gym patron against a wall.

As backup arrived—including Lt. Matthew Parodi, Sgt. Peter Donatello, and Officers Andrew Mulligan and Alana Luna—the situation escalated. Police report that Delarosa ignored all verbal commands, assumed a “fighting stance,” and explicitly dared officers to use lethal force.

Escalation and Arrest

Despite attempts at de-escalation, the confrontation turned physical. Law enforcement utilized several tools to bring the situation under control:

  • OC Spray (Pepper Spray)

  • Baton Strikes

  • Tasers

Even after these measures, Delarosa reportedly continued to resist, physically assaulting four officers during the struggle. While the officers sustained minor injuries, they were fortunately able to subdue the suspect without requiring hospitalization.

A Lengthy Criminal History

This is far from Delarosa’s first brush with the law. Investigations into NJ Court records reveal a seven-page history of offenses dating back to 2008. Recent charges include:

  • January 2026: Resisting arrest in Teaneck.

  • July 2024: DUI and careless driving in Washington Township.

  • February 2024: Burglary charges in Newark.

Current Charges and Legal Status

Following a medical evaluation, Delarosa was hit with a litany of serious charges:

  • Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement (4 Counts)

  • Resisting Arrest

  • False Imprisonment

  • Criminal Sexual Contact & Lewdness

  • Burglary, Theft of Services, & Criminal Mischief

The suspect is currently being held at the Bergen County Jail pending a court hearing.
