It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of one of our own, Rocco Rodden.   Rocco, a junior at SJR, left us in the early hours of Thanksgiving morning.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Rocco’s family and friends.

Gianluca Bordone, aged 19, was charged with manslaughter and assault by the New York City Police Department on Friday in connection to the incident.

Law enforcement responded to a call at 1:50 a.m. at 96 Lafayette St., the site of Live Axe, where they discovered the two victims. The 17-year-old victim, identified as Rocco Rodden, a St. Joseph football player according to sources, was transported to Bellevue by first responders but was pronounced dead.

The tragic stabbing has deeply affected the community, leaving Rodden’s family, friends, and schoolmates grappling with the sudden loss. In response, St. Joseph Regional High School announced that it would provide grief counseling and support services to all its students.

A letter to the school community expressed the hope that the support services and counseling would allow the community to come together, find solace in shared memories of Rocco, and support one another during this difficult time. The high school plans to commence Monday with a schoolwide assembly and prayer service, where students will receive guidance and solidarity from the administration.

Dan Marangi, the former football coach at St. Joseph, who recently stepped down, expressed being at a loss for words in response to the tragic incident.

  1. “Private Party” all under age.

  2. All inside the ax throwing place at a private party serving alcohol to minors (17 and 19). When it closed, they continued the party outside on the sidewalk. They got into a mutual altercation. Kid arrested was charged with assault and manslaughter, not murder. There are two sides to every story and the truth is usually somewhere in the middle. Nevertheless, this is a tragedy.
