Lyndhurst NJ, Chris Musto a recently retired Homeland Security executive and long-time resident of New Jersey’s 36th Legislative District, announced today that he is running for the New Jersey General Assembly.

“I’m excited to bring my experience and commitment to public service to the New Jersey General Assembly,” said Musto. “The safety and security of our communities were a top priority during my career in Homeland Security, and I know how important it is to keep our neighborhoods safe. That’s why I’m running – to make sure that our communities have the strong, effective representation they deserve in Trenton.”

Musto, a Republican, acknowledged that the district has been held by Democrats since 2003, but expressed confidence that he can win in the current political climate. “Voters are looking for change, and I believe I can deliver that,” he said. “I have a proven track record of leadership and a deep understanding of the issues that matter most to the people of this district. I’m ready to get to work and make a real difference in the lives of our citizens.”

In addition to his focus on public safety, Musto also highlighted his commitment to reducing taxes, reforming the state’s school funding formula, and promoting economic growth. “New Jersey deserves better than the out-of-control spending and burdensome regulations that have driven businesses and families out of the state,” he said. “I’ll fight every day to make New Jersey more affordable, more competitive, and more prosperous for everyone.”

Musto also indicated that he is considering potential running mates for the Assembly race. “I’ve been approached by several qualified individuals who are interested in joining the ticket, and I’m having some good conversations,” he said. “I’ll be making a decision on a running mate shortly, but my top priority is making sure that we have the strongest possible team to take on the Democrats and win in November.”

Chris Musto is a retired executive from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, where he oversaw investigative operations throughout New Jersey. A resident of the 36th Legislative District for over 20 years, he has been actively involved in his community, serving as a coach for various sports teams and as a member and president of the Lyndhurst Board of Education. He and his wife have two children and live in Lyndhurst.
