Cleveland Ohio, Major League Baseball’s Cleveland Indians announced Friday that it is doing away with its moniker, Cleveland Indians, and renaming the team the Cleveland Guardians, a move that erases a 106-year-old name said to be in honor of Louis Sockalexis, who played major league baseball for the Cleveland Spiders in the late 1800s and is credited as the first Native American to play professional baseball.
Louis Francis Sockalexis (October 24, 1871 – December 24, 1913), nicknamed The Deerfoot of the Diamond, was an American baseball player. Sockalexis played professional baseball in the National League for three seasons, spending his entire career (1897-1899) as an outfielder for the Cleveland Spiders. A Native American from the Penobscot tribe, Sockalexis is often identified as the first person of Native American ancestry to play in the National League and Major League Baseball.
My daughter said she thinks they should have changed the name to Cleveland Cupcakes because they are a bunch of bitches
we thought the Cleveland Cowards was more fitting
Dallas Cowboys must be next. It was the Cowboys that plundered the Indians.
Guardians.
Really ?
As a tall person I am offended by the New York Giants….
I think all of this name changing it’s TOTALLY ridiculous and whoever come up with this stupid agenda is an idiot!
Coin Boy has season tickets to the Yankees
Who cares they suck, Professional farm team
Should have become the cleveland steamers
This is boring. Can we talk about how snowflake liberals will flip the heck out at the most stupid, inconsequential things instead?
Indians……hmmmm….let’s think about it…..feared warriors, brave, stoic, proud, strong. Yes the name should be changed, we shouldn’t have any of that going on in our country, Don’t you agree?
Another MLB disappointment
They really don’t get it
This is just ridiculous in every way! This is what the idiots want. Control over everything that was a getaway from regular life… Screw MLB NFL NBA! You all suck!
