Ridgewood NJ, during a recent Ridgewood Village Council meeting, a concerned resident voiced his opinion about the village’s new street signs, sparking a broader discussion among attendees. The resident highlighted what he perceives as an increased use of street signs that only identify one street at the marked intersection, leaving the other unmarked.

Resident Feedback on New Street Signs

Several residents joined the discussion, expressing their dissatisfaction with the new street signs. Their main concerns revolved around the size and visibility of the signs.

“The new street signs are awful,” one resident commented. “They are too small and sometimes hard to see.”

Questions About Durability

Beyond size and visibility, residents raised concerns about the longevity of the new signs. They pointed out that an increasing number of Stop and other regulatory signs have been fading quickly in the sun.

“Are these new street signs going to fade in the sun like the others?” another resident asked, questioning the durability of the materials used for the new signs compared to those in the past.

Call for Answers and Action

The discussion during the council meeting underscored a shared sentiment among many Ridgewood residents: a need for clarity on the rationale behind the changes and assurance that the new signs will be both functional and durable. The residents urged the council to consider their feedback and address these concerns promptly.

As the village continues to make improvements and updates to its infrastructure, ongoing communication between residents and the council will be essential in ensuring that changes meet the community’s needs and standards.

    1. What happened to the edges… the white border.

Did they print rectangular signs and cut them as “oval/rounded edges” signs?

What idiot is running the show? Kimberly Cheatle?

  2. I hate to say it, but I have to agree- we are running out of things to complain about.

  3. I did notice them and how cheap they look. We are spending money elsewhere but not to maintain the importance of how our town should look and function

The signs look like shi*. They do not direct correctly because they only mark one of the two streets and they may fade

Maybe the VM is from Paterson but this isn’t Paterson or wherever town he came from

Also I thought to be called a village there was only a certain amount of signage allowed. Now we have signs everywhere. Even for turtles.

Not sure if this is true but I did hear that some years ago about the number of signs allowed to be called a village. We maybe become the city of Ridgewood thanks to all these clowns we pay to run it

  4. And can we take a minute to address the font style used? What is that, Clearview? Do we really have to adhere to these ridiculous FHWA standards? Our signs should reflect our special status don’t you think? They shouldn’t look like the signs you’d see as you pull off the highway into some filthy rest stop, or Patterson.

      1. If I can’t be bothered to step foot in Patterscum do you really think I’d be bothered to spell it correctly?

  5. What happened to the pole now? We are using aluminum bracing what’s that?

    1. It’s called cheap! It’s called I don’t live in this town so I don’t care what it looks like. It’s called a bad VM who doesn’t care

  6. The simple answer to all the general complaints in Ridgewood is”SPECIAL INTERESTS”. HABERNICKLE, SCHEDLER,etc. The house at Schedler was thousands and thousands over budget and Habernickle has all sorts of things done to it so the renter can make more and more money and have more and more areas “OFF LIMITS” TO OUR VILLAGE CHILDREN. In a prior hurricane Village employees took generators to her so that her private parties did not need to be cancelled. I’m sure there were many residents and businesses who needed them more than “private–cash earning for her–parties. I almost hate to say it, but many of these scams preceded the advent of our current Council. However, the current Council makes the past one look like misers in their unnecessary expenditures.

    1. Yes there are all kids of special favors done for the business in Habernickle that cost us tax payers money. The park is very dirty and unwelcome to guests. The business makes it difficult to even enter the park from the parking lot. I have to push my wheelchair past tents and tables. Ridiculous set up for everyone else but the one making $$$. The business is private. Don’t be fooled

  7. Who the hell is running the village what a joke . Every few years a new village manager comes and goes. It’s so annoying. It’s so political it’s a damn joke. I have experienced this in the past 30 years, the managers not the boss. In the end, the mayor and the council are the boss and the people behind the curtain that donate big money too council mayor that’s how the cookie crumbles.

  8. I couldn’t count the number of times that the lack of a sign indicating the cross street has been a problem.

They do not have to be at every intersection on long streets, but at least sometimes, and always at least once on short ones.

  9. Town, streets and parks look like sh**. Our VM and Mayor are too busy posing for pix than making Ridgewood beautiful again. We will be Patterson very soon with these clowns in charge. We need help from folk who care and live here

  10. The new signs and poles were introduced due to large amount of street name sign thefts in the past few years. The old version signs were more susceptible to stealing as they were being pulled at and the simple brackets would snap. These brackets are more secure. The signs are required to utilize the standard size and font style as dictated by FHWA (hence no more ALL CAP street name signs and ‘fancier’ fonts).

The cross street sign question is probably due to cost and the speediness to replace the stolen signs. I agree that sign fading has been a known issue with Village signs for YEARS and hope they make the manufacturer of the ink the village uses refund for allowing subpar quality.

    1. OK Commie.
