Contractor Convicted of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Minor in her family’s home in Demarest

Demarest NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the conviction of ALEJANDRO VELASQUEZ-MARTINEZ of Morristown, NJ for aggravated sexual assault on a minor. On May 12, 2023, following a four-day jury trial before the Honorable Nina Remson, J.S.C., in Bergen County Superior Court, VELASQUEZ-MARTINEZ was convicted of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child.

At trial, the State presented six witnesses, including two expert witnesses, and successfully argued that on the morning of August 19, 2019, VELASQUEZ-MARTINEZ committed aggravated sexual assault on a minor under 13 years of age while he was doing tile repairs in her family’s home in Demarest.

The State was represented by Assistant Prosecutors Meredith Kunz and Katie McLaughlin of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, with the assistance of Detectives Christina Ferencevych and David Dermody. The defendant was represented by Scott D. Finckenauer, Esq.

Prosecutor Musella thanks Assistant Prosecutors Kunz and McLaughlin for their zealous advocacy and efforts to bring justice for the victim and her family. Prosecutor Musella also commends the detectives of the BCPO’s Special Victims Unit as well as members of the Demarest Police Department for their skill and professionalism in investigating this matter.

The defendant faces a minimum of 25 years without parole in New Jersey State Prison at sentencing, which is scheduled for August 4, 2023, before Judge Remson.

  1. You just don’t know who you’re letting into your home. If he isn’t self-employed I wonder if his employer did a background check. I’m sure he had prior offenses of this type. Put this scumbag away so he doesn’t see the light of day.

    Instead, we should implement the Ron DeSantis approach: the DEATH PENALTY for anyone who injures a child! (the additional upside is the huge cost savings for taxpayers)

    1. I agree, but the reality is that not many states, if any , would implement the death penalty for this type of crime. So, keep him in jail where he can rot. Don’t try to “rehabilitate “ him because he and other creeps like him can’t be rehabilitated. You know he’s probably done this before but never got caught.
