Ridgewood NJ, during the January 31st Village Council Budget Meeting, Councilwoman Siobhan Winograd reported that she’d been startled by a squirrel while shooting a video intended to highlight her recent assessment of alleged defective Village owned trash cans in the Central Business District. The squirrel allegedly jumped out of a trash can the Councilwoman was standing next to while videotaping herself.
As it is alleged that existing sidewalk located trash cans did not reach their advertised life expectancy, Councilwoman Winograd is seeking to obtain significant vendor credit for the Village towards replacement trash cans.
Councilwoman Winograd did not indicate whether she filed a report with the police department in connection with the squirrel incident. She also did not indicate whether the video shoot was completely scrubbed, or just delayed as a result of the startling disruption. The squirrel’s identity, permanent address, and employer’s name all remain unknown at this time. Maybe the Councilwoman will post a video of the culprit on her official Facebook page.
She’s lucky it didn’t grab her handbag………………………..
Nutz!
Is this really the reporting you aspire to?
Agree
Not a fan of council woman but come on..
Listen up. A commenter here is reporting that she called the police department about this. Did she dial 911? If so, was that a violation of rules governing the use of 911? Someone should file a records request for an audio copy of that phone call.
C’mon man. This is hysterical! I am dying reading some of these responses..
This is the type of story that makes this blog special.
Stepford…
She is a Hot Mess
She called the police department on this, this is not Mayberry. Ridiculous, she’s lucky a rat didn’t jump on her.
If she called 911 to report being spooked outdoors by a squirrel she should be issued an appropriate summons. That homeless woman Michelle told me that the police department got on her case for calling 911 with a non emergent issue.
Professional courtesy moots that…………………..
She is ridiculous
We are now going to replace the garbage cans again. Why is this a problem again. Who is bringing this up again. Every few years this is a problem. Someone is trying to put a feather in their cap.
First she will probably sue the garbage can manufacturer, next she will file a law suit against the Village and then she will find a way to sue nature more generally and squirrels specifically.
“Startled by a Squirrel: My Life in Garbage”
the squirrel was looking for a nut
this whole thing smacks of racism , “squirrels lives matter”
wow I know times are tuff but a council person picking through the garbage ?
a solution looking for a problem
In all fairness, I think anyone of us”perfect people” here on the blog would be startled if a squirrel jumped out of a garbage can at us.
But we would not have called the cops.
Can’t blame the squirrel. The animal knows when he sees a nut.
this town is going nuts
This is I defensible. 9-1-1? Is she insane? Asked and answered.
Did the squirrel have dark skin, or yellow skin? Because we know she has a fear, yes, a fear, of darker skinned men. Also, was the squirrel stalking children?
This stuff is so funny I love it the Greek village of Ridgewood
I’d rather see squirrels running in out of the garbage cans, than other rodents.
I’m more scared about the two legged rats walking around the village.
And speaking about trash, what’s all this talk about all the new sanitation trucks are going to be electric. Wow that’s pretty interesting.
here, fixed that fer ya…

interestingidiotic. No more bull crap from village hall. We have a new sheriff in town.
By law they can bring in a outside police officer from the county or state to oversee things. They did that in other towns.
Commissioner or commander
They can save a lot of money by making one boss of the police and manager too one position.
Is it not causing false public alarm when you call 911 knowingly with a non emergency issue ? 2C-33-3 section e. A crime of the 4th degree punishable by up to 18 months in jail
