Critical Race Theory Leads to Nationwide Parent Revolt

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, the revolt by parents over Critical Race Theory being taught in schools is now nationwide. It is also so universally unpopular that it threatens to reverse the gains that Democrats made with independent voters last year.  A headline in Politico sums it up:  “Moderate and suburban voters share concerns about education changes and say national Democrats dismiss their arguments.”

No one is worse on the issue than the current White House occupant.  Many parents were furious in May when White House press secretary Jen Psaki sneered to reporters:  “I don’t think we would think that educating the youth and next and future leaders of the country on systemic racism is indoctrination,”

In Democratic-leaning Palm Beach County, Florida, the school board recently adopted a statement that it would work to eliminate “white advantage.”  Parents flooded a school board meeting to protest.

The majority of Democrats on the school board gave in and voted to edit the “white advantage” phrase out of the statement. But then the local Democratic Party formally censured those school board members saying they had betrayed the party’s values. Two school board members declared they would leave the Democratic Party as a result.

The protests are spreading from coast to coast.

We continue to maintain that the way to avoid having the public schools become a vehicle for indoctrination of any kind is to allow school choice so parents can send their children to a school they believe reflects their values – and may actually give them a real education in the basics.

  1. School choice would indeed limit indoctrination, but the movement has had very little success over the last three decades. It’s up to individual parents to protect their children. No one is going to make it easy by offering a tax funded alternative.

  2. History has long been said to be, “His Story.” The tale told by the domineering winner of what ever social/economic contest makes up a country or social group. It was so for the Khan’s, the Caesar’s, the Pharaoh’s, the Crown’s of Europe, and the Iroquois Until People are willing to listen to voices other than their own; it will remain the small group of voices such as Siddhartha Gautama, Lao Tzu, Deganawida, Jesus of Nazareth, His Holiness Dalai Lama 14th that preach in our wilderness of universal compassion. Margaret Mead the world renown anthropologist taught me this in Ridgewood Public Schools in 1967. My Family settled and founded the present Government in Bergen County signing the US Constitution for Bergen. You don’t see us around any more do you? Or our farms and orchards and horses. We have told “THis Story” listen to it or not, it’s up to you, but from where we are the path you are on now leads to the complete dissolution of any kind of UNITED States of America. I am truly sorry to say that. God Bless those who put other’s interests above their own. Sincerely, Pete Zabriskie

  3. What’s RDWD BOE / superintendent position on CRT? I saw pride flags in the high school than Stars and Stripes last I visited.

  4. History is “his” story because men did all of the heavy lifting.

…but let’s change the facts and distort history because of some misguided sense of “fairness”

THIS is what is wrong with the country and will be our demise.
