From Pizza Reviews to City Hall? Dave Portnoy Drops Mayoral Bombshell Live on Fox News

NEW YORK, NY — The race for New York City Hall might be getting a massive dose of One Bite energy. Barstool Sports founder and internet mogul Dave Portnoy dropped a political bombshell during a fiery live appearance on Fox News, teasing that he would “love to run against” NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Speaking with host Jesse Watters on Jesse Watters Primetime, the Boston-born businessman—who is currently crisscrossing the country promoting his explosive new memoir, Cancel Me If You Can—didn’t hold back his thoughts on the current state of local government, firing a massive warning shot at career bureaucrats.
“I’ve Had a Real Job”: Portnoy Blasts NYC Leadership
Portnoy’s potential entry into the political arena stems from a deep-rooted frustration with traditional politicians, whom he explicitly labeled as “clowns” out of touch with everyday citizens.
“I’ve had a real job. I’ve done real things, unlike these clown politicians who have never had a job and have never been in the real world for a day,” Portnoy told Watters.
He pointed to his extensive history in the Big Apple as proof that his connection to New Yorkers is genuine and entirely separate from political posturing:
-
The Barstool Fund: Raising millions of dollars directly for small businesses struggling during pandemic-era lockdowns.
-
The Pizza Economy: Driving massive foot traffic, visibility, and revenue to local mom-and-pop pizzerias through his viral reviews.
-
Corporate Presence: Keeping a massive corporate footprint and workforce directly inside Barstool’s primary Manhattan headquarters.
“There’s a lot of people who like me in New York City. I know that,” Portnoy added. “I’ve done a lot of good in New York City when I wasn’t thinking about politics… so it wasn’t for show.”
The Bitter Feud with Mayor Zohran Mamdani
Portnoy’s disdain for Mayor Mamdani isn’t new. In fact, the Barstool founder openly admitted last year that he seriously contemplated uprooting the entire Barstool Sports headquarters and moving it out of New York City entirely if Mamdani secured the mayoral seat.
At the time, Portnoy described a classic “catch-22,” worrying about disrupting his employees’ lives over his personal dislike of the administration, while simultaneously stating, “I can’t stand the thought of Mamdani running New York City.”
When Watters asked him point-blank if he would launch a campaign to challenge the incumbent, Portnoy left the door wide open.
“I would love to run against… if I was going to run, it would be here. Can I win here? I have no idea,” he admitted, before warning that the current political landscape is a “scary time” where “we need leaders to step up.”
Whether this is a serious political bid or classic Portnoy showmanship remains to be seen—but an NYC mayoral debate featuring Dave Portnoy would undoubtedly be must-watch television.

Glad somebody is taking Mamdani on.
Mamdani has a fake marriage just like Spartacus.
