The Morning: An Unusual Wildlife Rescue

The day started early at 8:30 AM when the New Milford Police Department (NMPD) requested assistance for an unusual emergency: a deer was tightly wedged and stuck between two fences.

Thinking quickly outside the box, NMFD crews deployed the hydraulic extrication tools (commonly known as the “Jaws of Life”) usually reserved for freeing victims from severe motor vehicle accidents.

  • Firefighters carefully used the specialized tool to pry the fences apart.

  • The gap was widened just enough to safely free the trapped deer.

  • The animal was successfully rescued and transferred to the care of local Animal Control.

The Afternoon: Two-Car Crash on River Road

The peace didn’t last long. At 1:46 PM, the department was dispatched to a two-car motor vehicle accident (MVA) on River Road, located right in the local CVS parking lot.

Arriving crews quickly went to work securing the scene and mitigating environmental hazards:

  • Battery Hazard: Crews disconnected and secured the battery on the most severely damaged vehicle to prevent potential electrical fires.

  • Fluid Spill Cleanup: Firefighters applied Speedy Dry Absorbent across a significant fluid spill on the pavement to prevent environmental damage and slick driving conditions.

Support Your Local Volunteers: A huge thank you to the members of the NMFD for their swift actions and continuous dedication to our town!
