TRENTON NJ, Citing safety and security concerns, Assemblyman Hal Wirths proposed an amendment to the illegal immigrant driver’s license bill (A4743) that would require all applicants to undergo a wanted person check to determine whether they had an outstanding arrest warrant or pending charges.

WATCH: Wirths proposes background checks for all driver’s license applicants to enhance safety and security

“This way we know we are not issuing a government document that can be used as ID without at least doing the most minimal background check to ensure we are not giving it to somebody that could be involved in human trafficking or any type of other crime or warrants from other states. This is strictly for the entire population so there’s not even a hint of discrimination in any way.”

Under Wirths’ amendment, every driver’s license applicant, regardless of status, would have been checked through the New Jersey Wanted Person and Criminal Justice Information systems in the files of the National Crime Information Center.

The Democrats voted against his amendment and the bill passed the committee with all Republicans voting no.

  1. Not good , this is about safety. O m g . They need to wake up.

  2. Against this for the same reason i am for background checks on ak-47’s – – citizens and legal residents have the rights and privileges afforded by our Consititution, our laws and our taxpayer provider infrastructure.

  3. I don’t hate as a rule, but I hate these F-ing NJ Democrats.
They are either incredibly stupid (which I do not believe) or they are hell bent on tearing down American society.

  4. They are F’ing stupid. Until it affects their families. Ass clowns…

  5. A foolish decision that will lead to more serious problems. It’s a safety issue not discriminatory.

  6. I want to know what the hell is going on? What about the safety of Americans? It will be too late once something happens to then say we should address. We need better decision making and leadership that works for ALL in this state! Sickening!
