The ad hoc committee planning a second senior citizens complex in Glen Rock has been asked to suspend activity, pending the outcome of a private senior housing venture being proposed on Prospect Street, south of the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Temple.

Mayor John van Keuren reported that request at the Monday, Dec. 9 council work session.

Last week, representatives of RIC Development appeared before the Ridgewood Village Council, presenting its plans to build 66 housing units, intended for residents 62 years of age and older, in three buildings on Prospect Street. The dwellings were described as large one- and two-bedroom apartments. The location is currently occupied by two private residences; RIC is the contractor purchaser of the location.

Although in Glen Rock, the project site is situated just west of the Ridgewood-owned sewage treatment facility and near the Ho-Ho-Kus Brook, which is why the RIC representatives, including attorney David Rutherford, are vetting the plans with both Ridgewood officials and the state Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP). Specifically, the developer hopes to use the right of way leading to the water treatment facility as an egress and ingress road to the proposed apartment complex

  1. WARNING TO RIDGEWOOD VILLAGE COUNCIL:

Think long and hard before endorsing construction of this facility near your property. Significant liability issues may result from construction of this facility near your property. Think about over residents over 62 years old driving near heavy truck traffic. Think about these same residents walking aimlessly around driveways that carry heavy truck traffic. Think about noise & smells emanating from your property and how those might affect people who are 62 years old and up.

This is a nightmare waiting to happen if you endorse the project and sell those folks the lot they want to buy from you.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE FOLKS.

  2. No way Big Al and his friend the attorney have been working on this deal for some time and this project is not going away.

  3. Is this property in the flood zone?

  4. A developer will profit and the Village taxpayers will pay the bill. That item appears to be at the top of the Council’s agenda.

  5. So its in flood zone that only means that they will have to spend more money to build it. Just like the Fire House which is in a flood zone but has bulkhead doors to stop the water.

  6. When is it time for this Council to pay?

  7. Councilman Big Al is not satisfied in over development of Ridgewood’s CBD he extending his help to Glen Rock.

  8. Will this project benefit Ridgewood taxpayers?

  9. Well if it does I would like to hear it. Maybe The Ridgewood Council will get Glen Rock to drop their case against the Ridgewood Water Dept. Remember the word TRANSPARENCY that our Mayor Paul Aronsohn like to throw around. Well has the GANG OF THREE been transparent?
