Midland Park NJ, are Midland Park residents being trivially blamed for the “excessive lawn watering” that supposedly triggered last weekend’s boil water advisory?
The Borough of Midland Park has refused to enact an ordinance, as requested by Ridgewood Water, that would restrict lawn watering to 2 days per week. Ridgewood Mayor Paul Vagianos mentioned this thorny issue during Wednesday’s recap of the boil water fiasco. Could sour grapes have prompted Mayor Vagianos to finger point?
After all, restricting water use is a lot cheaper for Ridgewood Water than investing in new infrastructure capable of supporting 21st century needs. If Midland Park residents cut back on water use, does Ridgewood Water’s profitability increase?

1-Its a public utility so there are no real “profits”. Higher costs = higher water rates
2-At times when they have tried to increase capacity they are fought by residents objecting to storage tanks and construction in their neighborhoods
3-water or the capacity of the aquifer our wells tap is not infinite. Looking at other areas that have to dig deeper wells or have totally run out of ground water should be a lesson that the attitude that , as much water as we want can be pumped out forever is shortsighted.
4-the rate of pumping water from aquifers can pull contaminants into them, especially when pumping is excessive, as it can create a pressure gradient that draws in nearby contaminated water, potentially mobilizing contaminants that were previously trapped in the surrounding rock or sediment
Very good theory. This group is known for anger and revenge
Kazmark was sure white hot on Wednesday. My phone almost melted when I watched the meeting Thursday morning. Gheesh, bro, calm the f down.
He has admitted in the past to needing anger management therapy on at least one occassion. He can get like you said “white hot” and he starts clenching his jaw. and sneering and taking offense at people’s comments. It is not good.
Well, at least he hasn’t referred to residents a “douche bags” like a former Council member (and now former Ridgewood resident) did.
As a current Ridgewood resident I can confirm that a great many residents are, in fact, giant douche filled bags.
He was pissed, I could see him losing his cool. That didn’t take long you know these managers only last a few years anyway
One can only hope.
A Class A community, like Ridgewood, should be able to supply sufficient water to permit its citizens and taxpayers to water the lawns of their million-dollar homes. Surface supplies exist, and should be used to supplement our own capacity. This water company needs to be SOLD and professionally managed.
