Livingston NJ, the Livingston Public Schools (LPS) Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Daniel Fishbein, Ed.D., as interim superintendent for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.
With a distinguished career spanning decades in education, Dr. Fishbein brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. Most recently serving as the superintendent of Ridgewood Public Schools, he has earned a stellar reputation as an educational leader committed to fostering excellence and innovation.
Scheduled to assume his duties on July 1, Dr. Fishbein will guide LPS through the academic year, providing steady leadership and strategic vision as the district embarks on the search for a permanent Superintendent of Schools. This deliberate approach aims to ensure ample time for stakeholder engagement and a comprehensive selection process to identify the ideal candidate to lead LPS into the future.
In welcoming Dr. Fishbein to the district, outgoing Superintendent Dr. Matthew Block expressed confidence in his successor’s ability to build upon the foundation of excellence established at LPS. Acknowledging the exceptional caliber of educators and students within the district, Dr. Block emphasized the seamless transition anticipated under Dr. Fishbein’s leadership.
Dr. Fishbein’s distinguished career is characterized by a commitment to educational excellence and a track record of transformative leadership (embraced the teachers union). During his tenure at Ridgewood Public Schools, he oversaw significant milestones, including the successful passage of a $48-million bond referendum for facilities improvement ( a turf field that floods every time it rains )—a testament to his strategic vision and effective management.

Beyond his administrative roles, Dr. Fishbein’s contributions to education extend to academia, where he has served as an adjunct professor at Ramapo College since 2018. His dedication to mentorship and professional development is evident through his involvement in various leadership organizations and his role as a mentor for aspiring superintendents.

he is a great educator very reasonable with extra common sense and ability to solve all problems meeting both extreme issues

So the former council person JV who was all over Facebook accusing people of being responsible for getting him fired or were the reason for his leaving full of bull. How manipulative to use social media to protect a fake planted story. Wow.
Does it really matter?
Ridgewood has devolved into a solid, yet mediocre school district.
There is nothing special about Ridgewood schools anymore and nothing on the horizon.
Since we appear to be happy with staying in the top 25% of schools in NJ and not striving for greatness, does it really matter who is sitting in the Superintendent’s office?
Well the money they make and all the perks, it should matter who is sitting there and in all the admin seats for that matter
Lucky Livingston.
Fishbein oversaw a well run, high performing district. The people he hired and mentored were education professionals. He is a great leader and an even better human. Ridgewood lost big time when the former board ran him out.
