GLEN ROCK, NJ — A quiet Friday afternoon turned into a major emergency response on April 17, 2026, after a spectacular multi-vehicle crash sent three people to the hospital and left a local landmark damaged.
The incident occurred late Friday afternoon on Glen Avenue, when a Toyota Highlander lost control, striking two parked vehicles with significant force. The momentum carried the SUV across the property of the U.S. Post Office, where it finally came to rest on the front lawn after hitting the facility’s flagpole.

Injuries and Emergency Response
The collision triggered a massive response from regional first responders. Units from Glen Rock Police, Ridgewood Police, Glen Rock Fire Department, Glen Rock EMS, and The Valley Hospital EMS all rushed to the scene.
-
Hospitalizations: Two ambulances transported three individuals to local trauma centers. At least one minor was among the injured. Victims were taken to hospitals in Paramus and Hackensack for evaluation and treatment.
-
Property Damage: Heavy-duty tow trucks were required to clear the wreckage from Glen Avenue, which remained partially obstructed while the Post Office lawn was secured.
The Search for Otis
In the chaos of the crash, a dog named Otis, who was inside the Highlander at the time of impact, managed to escape the vehicle and fled the scene.
Fearing the pet was injured or lost in the surrounding neighborhoods, officers began a search. Fortunately, Otis was located unharmed a short time later with the assistance of a Ridgewood PD Patrol Division officer and was safely reunited with his family.
Investigation Underway
The Glen Rock Police Department is currently spearheading the investigation into what caused the Highlander to careen off the roadway. At this time, it is unclear if mechanical failure, a medical emergency, or distracted driving played a role.
Local residents are advised to expect a continued police presence on Glen Avenue as investigators finalize their reports.
