Drivers are more dangerous today
Linda Moran
To the Editor:
We all know that over the years, traffic has gotten heavier and drivers have not adjusted their patience level. Instead, one might say that we’ve all adjusted to the impatience. But perhaps the extent of the hurriedness is never more obvious than when you are teaching a teenager to drive. This is my third child I’m teaching to drive, and again, I am appalled at the behavior of drivers, and not just at any old time of day, but during school dropoff hours, when many of those drivers are school parents themselves, and those who aren’t parents should know better – it’s hard to overlook the buses, crossing guards and kids with backpacks.
Recently, as my son was driving west on East Glen Avenue getting ready to turn onto Van Dien, an SUV came up behind him, crossed the double yellow line, and passed us. I shudder to think what would have happened had there been kids in that crosswalk by Benjamin Franklin Middle School.
Even if my son had been a pokey new driver, which is well within acceptability, there is no excuse, but in fact he had been doing the speed limit. Apparently that wasn’t good enough for Mister SUV.

Well , did you get Mr. Ms. or Miss SUV license plate number. You should have. You could have followed him. He would have slowed down soon enough at stop sign or intersection.
Get the plate number and call the police. Stop your car first of course before using your cellie.
Unless there is punishment things won’t change. On all levels by the way.
Cops won’t/can’t write a ticket based on your report so unless you want to sign a complaint and go to court, suck it up and move on.
NJIT buses are also crazy the way they drive in the village and you never see one pulled over. AS for comment by #2 when this person is hit or hurt by a careless driver then they can suck it up and move on.
The author wrote a well written reminder asking us all to reflect on our driving habits.
I would write a complaint and take it to court no. 2. I might save someone’s life next time Mr. Speedy, was it you? Above the limit?
And my complaint should be written up in the Record along with the speeders beautiful NAME.
You, sir, will move on and speed on; that’s why I would report you and take you to court.
It’s vital , and I mean vital that we get speeders punished. THey should be fined along with jail time.
I mean they are putting our lives at risk.
Do they realize that people copy people like sheep? If one person speeds and gets away with it others will do the same. Even Mr. Speedy is vulnerable. To getting killed.
It’s alright acting noble and reporting bad or illegal driving to the Police, but the reality is that it will simply be one person’s word against the other’s, and under the basic rules of evidence, that is not going anywhere.
The standard of driving in this country is bordering on abysmal, and until we adopt automated systems of controlling it, like they’ve done in Europe, nothing will change. We all like to think that we are great drivers and the lousy ones are other people, but the reality is we all push our luck knowing that we stand very little chance of getting caught.
Watch out for that old guy from Roberts St
No, we don’t all drive too fast. That is such shit. no. 7. To say that we all commit a certain crime, because YOU Do.
YOU Know what I hate you ENTITLED New JOISYANS. You inconsiderate shits.
I am not overweight. I bet you are. And I bet you say it’s impossible not to be. That everyone eats too much processed food.
You are a
Meds. You’ve not taken your meds. See what happens when you don’t take your meds.
#9 I recognize you from your rant style. You are the unhappy blogger sharing your miserable opinion with everyone.
I thought that something happebed to you.
“I thought that something happened to you”. Maybe 30 days rehab.
It’s not just speeders and aggressive/selfish drivers that are a danger…
I’ve seen more accidents and near accidents by well-intended but misguided drivers who do not obey the law in order to “be nice”.
For example, they try to “be nice” and let a another driver merge when he does not have the right of way or they stop to let a pedestrian jaywalk (a pedestrian who has been patiently waiting on the sidewalk and is not in the process of crossing the street) or they stop and wave oncoming traffic to cross in front of them when the oncoming traffic is required to yield, etc, etc.
This, as much as aggressive drivers, causes confusion, uncertainty and havoc.
It is best if everyone just follows the rules of the road – rather than bending/breaking them to benefit themselves OR others. It is the consistency and the PREDICTABILITY of other drivers which makes the roads safe. If everyone knows and follows the rules, we will all be safer.
Well bigmouth since you’re the neighborhood ‘wannabe cop’, go sign the complaint.
Then expect a that driver to sign a complaint against you for causing them to swerve or something of the sort.
Its easy to sit on your computer pressing buttons but I suggest you get some accurate information before pressing ‘post’.
The worse drivers are the New Yorkers that hog the left lane on the highways (rt 17 & 80)
By driving slowly, they cause everyone to pass them on the right which creates a hazard.
I’d like to see the NJ State Police get off their ass and write them tickets for ‘failure to keep right’. (instead of sitting at the bottom of a hill with their laser or radar)
You sound like the same troll posting from Mommy’s basement.
Never anything to add to the discussion, just personal attacks.
Now go take out the garbage and rake the leaves as mommy told you to.
#16 parents are deceased
#17 where you going to live when the executor sells the house and closes the estate?
