Special Weather Statement
National Weather Service New York NY
532 AM EDT Wed Apr 12 2023
A dry air mass will combine with west to northwest winds to
create conditions conducive for fire spread from late this
morning into early this evening. Relative humidity is expected to
decrease to 30 percent during this time, along with winds
at 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. These conditions could
aid fire spread if ignition occurs.

On Tuesday night in Teaneck a brush fire in a wooded area near Overpeck Park and Teaneck Creek Conservancy spread to over 10 acres, closed ramps to nearby highways and sent one firefighter to the hospital.

According to the Teaneck Fire Department , at approximately 1900 last night the 1st platoon received multiple calls for a brush fire in an area in the Township located between i95 and several occupied multiple dwellings. First units on scene confirmed a large area of the meadows burning threatening extension to the apartment buildings. Additional resources were requested by DC Weiss and Chief Berchtold.
Crews immediately setup master streams and stretched hand lines to protect the most threatened exposures and to cut the fire off from the exposures. The fire was contained to approximately a 100 acre area with no extension to any buildings or across the highway.
The fire was placed under control by command and the scene was turned over to NJ Forest Fire Service; who continued to soak down hot spots and performed controlled burns to eliminate further fuel. TFD crews remained on scene for fire watch. One member was transported to Holy Name Medical Center with minimal injuries.
Mutual aid partners and numerous resources that helped both on scene and to protect the township: Hackensack FD, Englewood FD, Ridgefield Park FD, Bogota FD, Bergenfield FD, New Milford FD, Leonia FD, Palisades Park FD, Fort Lee FD, River Edge FD, Tenafly FD, Creskill FD, Little Ferry FD, NJSP, TVAC in addition to other EMS agencies, and the Teaneck Police Department.
On scene to assist in the coordination of resources: Mutual Aid Coordinators, Township Manager Kazinci, Deputy Township Manager Rowe, and County Executive Tedesco.

Less than 24 hours after multiple agencies subdued a large brush fire in Teaneck, crews from several departments were on scene at a fire raging in the woods near the Charlotteburg Reservoir along Route 23 in West Milford. Large billowing clouds drifted across the highway impacting visibility.

Just before 2:30 p.m., the NJ Department of Transportation issued an alert that all northbound lanes of Route 23 were shut down. Meanwhile, township police said nearby Echo Lake Road − a lifeline for local residents when the highway is inaccessible − was also closed to traffic. JCP&L is also reported about 1,100 customers are without power.
