Dumont NJ, What was supposed to be an exciting night out to watch the NBA playoffs quickly devolved into a viral confrontation, leading to the termination of a Bergen County bar employee.

Management at QB’s Bar & Grill on West Madison Avenue in Dumont, New Jersey, confirmed they have fired a worker following explosive online allegations of discrimination, though the establishment’s owner maintains the claims remain unproven.

“You Aren’t Allowed Here”: How the Incident Unfolded

The situation began on Saturday night, May 23, 2026, when 34-year-old Karl Huey of Bogota and his brother-in-law arrived at the Dumont establishment to watch the New York Knicks take on the Cleveland Cavaliers.

According to Huey, the confrontation happened almost instantly. In an Instagram post capturing the subsequent police response, Huey detailed the interaction:

“We pulled up, parked right in front, and before I could even close my car door, a woman outside smoking—who was later identified as the manager—looked directly at us and said: ‘You [slur] aren’t allowed here.’”

Huey alleged that the racial slur was repeated multiple times. Shocked by the interaction, the two men still attempted to enter the venue. Huey claims the employee “speed-walked” inside ahead of them to instruct the security team to deny them entry.

The situation escalated further when the employee reportedly returned with a Black bouncer and allegedly shoved Huey, prompting him to call local authorities. “This became racism, discrimination, and assault,” Huey stated online.

QB’s Bar & Grill Owner Responds: “Blown Out of Proportion”

Speaking with local news outlets, QB’s owner Mike Gabetti offered a different perspective on the viral fallout, claiming the incident had been heavily distorted online.

“This is all hearsay and all these guys playing their games,” Gabetti told Daily Voice. “I’m not going to say they’re right or wrong. [The employee] has been fired, but nothing has been proven.” Gabetti also questioned why the patrons attempted to enter the bar if they felt offended by the initial interaction outside.

However, Huey countered that leadership should have handled the situation constructively. “If my employee messed up, I’m going to tell you to come and I’ll take care of everything,” Huey noted. “They didn’t try to correct the situation. They told us to leave.”

Official Statement and Ongoing Police Investigation

As public pressure mounted over the viral footage, QB’s Bar & Grill released an official statement on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, addressing the controversy and confirming the employee’s termination:

“The individual’s behavior shown does not reflect myself, my family, or the bar’s values or standards. We do not condone this behavior and addressed the situation. The employee involved has been terminated. We will continue ensuring every customer feels welcomed and valued.”

Despite the termination, the dispute is far from over. Huey has indicated his intention to press formal charges against the individual involved. According to Dumont Police Chief Luke Totten, the incident remains an active, ongoing investigation by local law enforcement.

  1. So you don’t name the employee but everyone else involved? Why?
