Ridgewood NJ, A Tuesday morning paving operation took an unexpected turn in the Village of Ridgewood, when a heavy-duty construction vehicle accidentally snagged utility lines during a major infrastructure upgrade.

What Happened on North Maple Avenue?

On the morning of Tuesday, July 28, 2026, a large dump truck loaded with hot asphalt struck a bundle of commercial communications wires attached to a retail and office building at 580 North Maple Avenue.

The truck was participating in a massive Bergen County-sponsored paving project covering both North and South Maple Avenues when its raised dump bed snagged the overhead wiring.

Quick Response by Ridgewood Emergency Crews

First responders were dispatched to the scene immediately following the accident:

• Ridgewood Professional Firefighters (FMBA Local 47) successfully untangled the utility lines from the truck’s dump bed. Firefighters safely secured and reattached the wires temporarily to the commercial building, allowing road crews to resume paving operations with minimal delay.

• Ridgewood Police Department responded to secure the scene and manage local traffic along North Maple Avenue.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident, and quick coordination between emergency services and road crews kept the county infrastructure project on track.
