Adding to parking woes at RHS

to the editor:

Adding further to the letter from Adriana Blauvelt regarding the limited parking at RHS (“Trouble finding parking at RHS,” Jan. 22, page A6) ,we also “attended” the 8th grade parent orientation. We had the same problem that Adriana had finding a space, and we succumbed to parking illegally near the football field after circling for at least 20 minutes and missing part of the presentation. (Brookfield was also totally full of cars.)

To our surprise, though, the orientation was not particularly well attended. The source of the parking issue was the overlapping events of a basketball game, a New Player’s production and adult education in addition to the parent orientation.

On the one hand, we can feel gratified that our high school is being so well utilized as a resource for both the students and the community. On the other hand, there must be a way to better schedule the events so as not to create the “perfect storm.”

The school principal said there are so many activities ongoing that it is impossible to find a night that is available. If that is truly the case, we as a community need to be addressing not only the parking issues for the downtown shopping area, but also the needs of our schools.

  1. Build a parking garage at the High School. whats the problem?

  2. Why not car pooling, when many parents and friends attending the same events.

  3. There are dozens of streets nearby. You might have to…shudder…walk a couple blocks. This is the laziest and silliest complaint ever.

  4. The board of education could consider moving the tennis courts to B.F. Middle School to allow for more parking at the high school. There is enough room at B.F. and the R.H.S. track events have already been moved there.

  5. I believe the tennis courts are Village property, so a move like that may be a little more complicated than you might think

  6. The house next door is for sale too and/or there is the lot they rent from the church for student parking if you really think parking is a problem…

  7. These events are rare. Plan ahead. Drive with a neighbor – perhaps the neighbor that you were texting. Walk. Walk from The lot at Vets. When did we get so entitled?

Do we need to turn the whole town into parking?

  8. Valet Parking

  9. When did we get so entitled?
    OMG that is truly LMFAO!
    Where have you been?

  10. The original letter is hilarious. It is so over the top that I originally thought it was a spoof.
    .
Sadly it was not. It was from…someone we allow to vote. That explains why we are in our current situation, both locally and nationally.

  11. When the high density housing is built there will be more drivers and the need for more parking.

Do people think that the new residents will walk everywhere? They will have to visit the schools too. Because they will have children in the schools, you can’t stop them.

For Back to school night at BF I usually park on the street by Travel . There are lots of cars and I expect that. I do not call for more parking at BF.
