The FAA has extended previous drone bans in the following areas:

  • Picatinny Arsenal: No drone flights allowed until December 26, 2023.
  • Bedminster: Restrictions in effect until December 20, 2023.

These measures follow the initial ban enacted after a drone sighting on November 18, 2023.

Why Are Drones Being Banned?

The FAA has not disclosed specific details about the security concerns, but such restrictions are typically enacted to mitigate risks involving sensitive locations, critical infrastructure, or events requiring heightened surveillance.

What This Means for Drone Operators

Drone operators are advised to check the FAA’s Notice to Air Missions (NOTAMs) for the latest updates on restricted areas and flight limitations. Violations of these restrictions could result in significant fines or legal action.

  1. By “special security reasons” we mean “we will be conducting operations in and around these areas and we don’t want you one of you plebs accidentally witnessing it.”

    Right?

STEP 1: Massive drones swarm area (with FAA compliant lighting schemes). Gov pleads ignorance/suggests possible foreign actors/but says you’re safe and please don’t shoot them down.

STEP2: To protect everyone from the non-threat, which in any event is not being caused by civilians, we’re going to call for more legislation to restrict civilian drone usage.

STEP3: To further protect everyone from the non-threat, the source of which is not civilian operators, we’re going to restrict the airspace around the following locations, is order to keep everyone safe from the people who aren’t doing anything.

    Have a nice day!
