Ridgewood NJ, Facebook is  experiencing widespread outages Monday morning. Facebook and its Instagram and WhatsApp platforms suffered a worldwide outage that has lasted more than three hours on Monday. Facebook’s internal systems used by employees also went down. Service has not yet been restored.

The company did not say what might be causing the outage, which began around 11:40 a.m. ET. Websites and apps often suffer outages of varying size and duration, but hourslong global disruptions are rare.

The outage followed a national broadcast of a whistleblower’s allegations that the social media network placed profits before safety. Late Sunday,  news program “60 Minutes” interviewed former Facebook data scientist Frances Haugen, who alleges that the social-media giant has been deceiving investors about how it has been dealing with hate speech and misinformation on its platform.
