Fairview Man Charged with Attempted Murder in Machete Attack

Fairview NJ, a Fairview man was arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly assaulting a woman with a machete in an apartment building, authorities announced.

Details of the Incident

The Fairview Police Department responded to an assault report at an apartment building on Day Avenue at 10:10 AM on Tuesday, according to a statement from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a 49-year-old woman with a large gash on her forehead. She was promptly transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, where she remains in stable condition as of Wednesday.

Arrest of the Suspect

The suspect, identified as Josue G. Corea, 37, was arrested on River Road in Edgewater at 10:45 AM, just 35 minutes after the incident.

Authorities allege that Corea struck the woman in the head with a machete near the common stairwell of the apartment building. After the attack, Corea fled the scene but was apprehended shortly thereafter by law enforcement.

Charges Against the Suspect

Corea faces multiple charges, including:

  • First-degree attempted murder
  • Second-degree aggravated assault
  • Third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose
  • Fourth-degree resisting arrest by flight
  • Fourth-degree possession of a weapon

The suspect is currently being held at Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court.
