WYCKOFF, N.J. — A major police response behind the Cedar Hill Shopping Center ended after a juvenile admitted to making up a report about being attacked with a razor blade, according to the Wyckoff Police Department.
Massive Police Response Behind Cedar Hill Shopping Center
The incident began around 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 22, when a juvenile reported that an unknown attacker had slashed their left forearm with a razor blade in the wooded area directly behind the Cedar Hill Shopping Center in Wyckoff.
Responding officers acted quickly to secure the scene:

Established a secure perimeter around the shopping center and adjacent woods.

Deployed a police drone for aerial surveillance.

Conducted an extensive foot search throughout the wooded area.
Despite the multi-agency search, investigators found no weapon, physical evidence, or indications that an assault had taken place.
Injury Determined to Be Self-Inflicted
First responders from the Wyckoff Volunteer Ambulance Corps treated the juvenile at the scene for a minor forearm injury. The youth was then released to their parents and taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.
During subsequent questioning by investigators, the juvenile confessed to fabricating the entire story and admitted that the injury was self-inflicted.
Ongoing Investigation and Multi-Town Response
The Wyckoff Juvenile Bureau is continuing its investigation into the incident. As of Wednesday, no formal charges had been filed.
Wyckoff Police extended their thanks to neighboring police departments from Midland Park, Hawthorne, and Franklin Lakes for their swift mutual-aid assistance during the initial emergency response.
