Twp. of Washington NJ, Emergency responders in Bergen County faced a dramatic scene on Friday afternoon as a vehicle rollover escalated into a brush fire along one of New Jersey’s busiest highways.

Quick Action Prevents Highway Disaster

At approximately 1:43 p.m. on May 1, 2026, the Township of Washington Fire Department (WTVFD) was dispatched to the Garden State Parkway Southbound, just north of the Washington Avenue exit.

Coordinated Response and Extinguishment

  • Mutual Aid: The Hillsdale Fire Department provided critical support, arriving on-scene with additional water supplies and manpower to ensure the blaze was fully contained.

  • Overhaul Operations: Firefighters performed extensive overhaul and thermal monitoring to prevent any reignition while the wreckage was recovered from the woods by local towing services.
