FLASH FLOOD WARNING: Heavy Downpours Risk Immediate Flooding Across Bergen, Passaic, & Essex Counties

A Flash Flood Warning is currently in effect for parts of Northern New Jersey until 6:30 AM EDT

Ridgewood NJ, Doppler radar detected strong thunderstorms delivering torrential rain across Bergen, Passaic, and Essex counties. Up to 1 inch of rain has already fallen, with additional rates of 1 to 1.5 inches per hour expected. Flash flooding is active or imminent in affected low-lying and urban areas.


Areas Under the Warning

If you are in or near any of the following communities, prepare for rapidly rising waters on roadways and near small streams:

  • Bergen County: Paramus, Ridgewood, Ramsey, Fair Lawn, Elmwood Park, Wyckoff

  • Passaic County: Paterson, Wayne, West Milford, Ringwood, Pompton Lakes, Hawthorne, Bloomingdale, Clifton

  • Essex County: Caldwell, Fairfield, West Orange, Montclair, Livingston

  • Additional Locations: Upper Greenwood Lake and surrounding regions


Potential Hazards & Impacts

  • Roadways & Underpasses: Expect localized street flooding on major highways, low-lying intersections, and poorly drained roads.

  • Streams & Creeks: Small creeks, rivers, and drainage basins could overflow rapidly without warning.

🚨 Safety Reminder: Turn around, don’t drown! Never attempt to drive or walk through flooded roadways. Most flash flood fatalities occur in vehicles.
