Ridgewood NJ, Four Ridgewood High School seniors have been named semi-finalists for the National Merit Scholarship. Jaywu Jun, Emily Jung, Nathan Kotchkin, and Gia Liu all have been recognized which makes up less than 1% of all high school seniors.
To become a Finalist, the Semifinalist and a high school official must submit a detailed scholarship application, in which they provide information about the Semifinalist’s academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. A Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT® or ACT® scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is a United States academic scholarship competition for recognition and university scholarships. The program is managed by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, a privately funded not-for-profit organization based in Evanston, Illinois. The program began in 1955.

Job very well done by these students.
That said, four National Merit Semifinalists is too few for an RHS Junior class that large. Historically speaking.
The PSAT at RHS must be being underemphasized…”under-efforted”…or something.
More administrators in the picture than students tells something about the sate of schools. The district has become admin heavy and we don’t have enough teachers to actually teach!

Where are the DEI police ?
This annual photo used to contain far more students.
