Franklin Lakes NJ, a tragic house fire in Franklin Lakes on Saturday morning resulted in the loss of two cats, while a resident was treated for smoke inhalation. The fire, which occurred on Arapaho Trail, also rendered the home uninhabitable, officials confirmed.
Quick Response from Firefighters and EMS
The Franklin Lakes Fire Department reported receiving 911 calls about smoke coming from the residence. Chief of Department Chuck Bohny immediately requested a second alarm while en route, summoning additional manpower from neighboring towns for on-scene assistance and borough coverage.
Upon arrival, firefighters were able to rescue three dogs from the home. Sadly, two cats did not survive. Franklin Lakes EMS treated one resident for smoke inhalation, ensuring they received the necessary care.
Road Closures and Investigation Underway
Arapaho Trail was temporarily closed due to the fire. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Arson Squad is now assisting in determining the cause of the blaze, which remains under investigation.
The home has been deemed uninhabitable, adding to the heartbreak for the affected family.
